I've never owned (and have only RARELY ridden) a PWC, so I'm trying to educate myself.
I bought a 95 GTX from my wife's uncle for stupid cheap ($150, included a trailer, an old snow mobile, and ANOTHER trailer) that did not run, it looks like its the MPEM as it tested bad. I ordered one today and hope to have it going by this weekend.
While debating on whether or not to put money into the ski, I saw a 94 WaveRunner (that's all I know about it, it doesn't have a number and I can NOT find an info plaque anywhere) posted on the FS board at work for $200 w/ trailer, talked him down to $150. Bought a battery, replaced a fuse, filled it with gas, and dropped it into the pond.
It's been less than a week and I'm on my 2nd tank of gas. LOVING it, as are my kids (4 and 6). Can't wait to get the 2nd one going and taking them somewhere that will let us do a little more cruising. I'm betting eventually we end up with something with enough power to really pull a tube.
Thanks to all for all of the information provided on this site. I hope to learn as much as I can from it!
