Hello All! I'm new to this forum and also very new to the boating world! I just purchased a 2001 Sea-Doo Challenger 2000 with an EFI Merc Motor! The boat is in fantastic shape! The motor has less then 300hrs on it. The compression was reading 130 across the board. Picked it up from the marina which was about 2 1/2 hrs away from my cottage. Put it in the water and it didn't get past 10 mph! What could be the problem?

I had a similar issue the other day was getting 4000-4500rpms n wouldnt go over 10mph. Took boat out of water flushed motor went back next day got up to 40mph n 4500-5000 rpms. Never got up too full 6200rpms or 55mph since.

What's the RPM reading?

Hi Doug welcome. If your rpm is at the rev limiter we know the engine is not holding you back. These boats have a wear ring around the propeller. The gap is supposed to be very tight around the blades. As sand and grit etc goes through the pump this ring wears down. As a result the boat gets slower.

The wear ring in the mercury pump is not a sleeve like in the seadoo style. And can be quiet costly to replace. Do a search on repairing wear rings.

Hey All Thank you for responding so quickly! Found out what the problem was! WEEDS! Lol! Stuck under the boat on the intake vent. Out here in our Ontario lakes some area's are very weedy. So I guess when we launched the boat and got out to my place I took in a bunch. Wouldn't of known until I pulled the boat out of the water! Like I said still very new to the boating world. Good news is that the boat runs great!! Thanks again for the help!
