New lanyard

This may sound like a silly question, but I want to replace the lanyard on the '97 GTI - looking out on Amazon and Ebay - and I'm reading about "this" lanyard is for non-D.E.S.S. and the next one says it's for D.E.S.S. Excuse my ignorance, but which one do I need?

You will have the DESS style. The non-DESS is not electronically read. Snaps on and keep the kill button pressed down kind of thing. The DESS Style is read by the MPEM.

(Making sure you know this.....) Key which needs to be programmed on the boat to work. Dealer or someone with special computer can do, but key won't work out of the box.

Both my keys look terrible from use but with tape and tie wrap continue to function great. At $160 in my area between key and programming I got creative to extend their life.
