Hi Guys,

nice to join the conversion here and looking forward to learn more about seadoo.

I bought my 1st doo last year (1994 XP) engine is in good condition (Compression 154/152) and the performance is good and everything worked well until i had a broken water out line on the turbine (fixed now).

Now I am looking in buying a 1996 Challenger with 1 engine for 2500$ the owner is claiming the machine in very good condition but the wear ring might need change soon, from the pictures he sent me the boat looks in good shape. the questions is should I go for this boat or look for something better and if I go for it would it be hard and expansive to change the wear ring (I am handy and like to work on my toys until I can't figure it out ... LOL)

I am going this Friday to see the boat what should I check for (compression (what PSI) ,,, etc)
Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and happy boating season everyone.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

The wear ring is not a big deal to replace. Yes check compression, should be around 150psi, most important take it for a ride, the best thing you can do it water test it.

Hi Lou,

Thanks for welcoming me aboard.
Any other advice if taking for a ride didn't work out? any thing to look for or do you recommend this boat at all?

Thanks a lot

Hi Lou,

I checked the compression 154psi on both, hull is good condition, the guy said the engine rebuilt about 2 years ago and the boat had 279Hrs on the hr clock.
water test was not possible (lakes not opened yet were the guy live) however i test it with a hose and heard few metallic sound from the back end near the pump, turned a flash light on the impeller and the wear ring looks uneven but no scares or tears just uneven and impeller looks in good shape and new, the guy confirmed the boat needs a wear ring, he also mentioned that the boat go fast at some point and act normal but when he reduce the speed it is not easy to get it fast again, I ended up buying the boat for good price 2.4k (hoping for happy and fun summer)

However, yesterday I took the boat to the lake for test and the speed was at idle until I am far from the dock after that tried to speed but nothing much happened, the boat raves to 7k but not picking up any speed then I reduced the rave to 5k and started to speed up until lowered acceleration.

Q: what that could be the wear ring or something else? I checked the wear ring on my 94 xp and find it pearly touching the impeller but on the challenger there is a big gap.
what wear ring do you recommend and any advice on the stainless steal one they have on eBay?

Thanks a lot
