Hi - just purchased a 150 with 9 hours on the clock. Currently winterized in NE - had oil and filter changed as part of winterization. Other than slapping in a keel guard, checking battery and running on trailer before I get to the dock - anything I should do? Do I need to have the oil and filter changed again? I am not seeing anything about a 10 hour dealer service on the '12 manual - seems like 25 - should I take it to the stealership anyway? I have the basic Best extended warranty.

Many thanks!

Congrats and welcome! Your going to love it.. We'll I did my 10 hour breakin service at the dealership.. You have the BEST warranty and it's a small price to pay to have paperwork that you took care of it.

The 4-tech engine is a very good engine. I change my oil at the end if every season. No mater the hours I use it.

To me it's not worth not doing it. I have owned skis for over 30 years and have never had the need for engine repair. Based on that alone I am not changing how I do things. Cheap insurance.

I always recommend replacing the motor oil and filter at end of each season, to drain out contaminated oil (sulfur from burning fuel and water vapor from air = H2SO4, sulfuric acid) and replace with fresh in preparation for the storage period, this helps keep corrosion damage to a minimum during the storage period.

It's not usually necessary to change the oil more than once/year unless the boat is heavily used (100hrs sounds good, if you can reach that much use in a single season).

Afraid it's under shrink wrap sitting in my beach place waiting for this never ending winter in NJ. Lucky Green I believe the color is called - probably beer color in NYC this Monday...

Let me know how it goes with the Keel guard and post some pics. I contemplated doing it on my 2012 Speedster but I want to see what it looks like. Congrats on the purchase!

Congrats on the purchase! If you are ever down our way in south FL (Tampa), look us up for a ride. We love our 2012 150.

Will do - will be a few months here in NJ before the snow melts!
I feel for ya, its been a tuff year up north. We moved from Indianapolis only 2 years ago. Record snow fall there this year. My wife still has grand visions of missing a Norman Rockwell snow fall. She fails to remember that lasts only a few hrs and then the harsh reality of shoveling snow, cancelled school, etc hit. Miss the people, but would not trade FL for anything!

I get over to Clearwater a few times a year on the weekends with my Speedster. If you ever want to meet up, let me know.
Sounds like a plan. We typically put in up at Tarpon Springs and cruise down to Three Rooker Island. It is about mid-way between Tarpon Springs and Clearwater. Great location for a little more “fun”, but if we want a slower pace, we typically go to Anclote Island. Slower paced and nice bay for tubing and fun on the backside of the island.

I have put in on the Honeymoon Island causeway and headed over to Three Rooker Bar a few times. It is a nice place to meet up.

I have yet to find out exactly where to put in on the HI Causeway. Do you go to a ramp or just back in by the road? I would like to set up a tailgate there this year. I love the jet boat, but if you have a couple of house guests, not easy for a boat ride. Parking along the causeway and setting seems to be the way to go with multiple "out of towners" visiting.

BTW, we just signed up for the following Jetski bash in St Pete on April 11-13th. Looks pretty cool and for a good cause.

This is approx where you can back in on the causeway. When we launch there we do not use a ramp. Most of the time it is not a problem but it might be if the tide is a dead low and you don't have help getting the boat off of the trailer.

That is where I would like to set up a tailgate area this year. Unfortunately I traded in my F150 for a Mustang and now just have the family mini van to pull the boat. Not certain how well it would do backing in and pulling out from the bank?

BTW...we're booked for the Orlando and Tampa Jet Ski "bash" in a few weeks in St Pete. I have not joined the Tampa club yet, but we're going to go down and join the "bash" and see what the club is like.
