I have a new 2008 challenger that has been in the water twice. The first time I took it out it performed flawlessly. The second time the following occurred:

The boat was listing and the RPM's were sky high. At 20 I was at 6k rpm's. The long alarm kept going off and the boat was struggling to get out of the water. I checked the oil and the coolant and weverything was fine. There does not seem to be any obstructions underneath. None of the indicator lights are engaging. I have done nothing b/t the two trips but fill it with gas. The boat has been used in saltwater only twice. Any suggestions. My wife is pissed that I even bought the boat and now that it is having this problem she is really pissed. Any suggestions would be great.

Runs Bad

We need more info. What do you mean by the boat was "LISTING"?
If you had a alarm going off then your gauges should have been trying to tell you the reason why. It sounds like you picked up some debris in your intake grates or there is some debris wrapped around your drive shafts. Crawl under your boat with a flash lite and take a close look at these items for debris. Fishing line, etc. wrapped around the drive shaft can cause pump cavitation which can cause a overheat situation.

new challenger

I am going to look closely at the jet. Tks for the advice. The dealer suggested the same thing. By listing I mean it was leaning to one side when I was trying to get on plane. I even went so far to check the plugs b/c it felt like I was taking on water. The wierd thing is I know it was overheating but the instruments were not going on. I just got the long beep.

new challenger

I checked the drive shaft and the impeller and both are clear from obstruction. The other thing that I thought was interesting that I did not mention b/f was when I hit reverse trying to realign with the trailer the long alarm immediately went off. I have to now wait until the boat tech at the dealer returns from vacation on wednesday. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. tks.

Any updated on what they found? I'm curious because I just posted up a thread about our 08 and it's first time out and the problems it's had. Some are very similar to yours. Not getting up out of the water without high rpms, listing while travelling straight. I did get some smoke out the back, no long beep but also no lights on the dash. Mine goes into the dealer tomorrow morning.

It sounds like both the "08" boats listed above are warrenty issue. Please keep us posted as to what the dealers find out.

i found out what the problem was. They had put the wrong size fuse in and did not catch it on the PDI. I have a new problem. I am now moving to an arera where i won't use the boat and I must sell. The boat has been great but it will not do me anygood in colorado.
