Is there a neoprene seal or gasket inbetween my pump and hull all the diagrams I have do not show one, on a 1996 GTX.

Yes, there is a rubber gasket between the pump and the hull. The bad news is they are hard to find, they have been discontinued. When I installed a new wear ring last year (I have a 96 GTI), my local dealer happened to have one.

If you can't find one or don't want to bother, you can use silicone seal between the pump and hull. You really need either the gasket or the silicone seal or you will suck air and cause cavitation. Even if you can find the gasket, I would still use a thin coat of silicone on both sides of the gasket.

I don't know this confuses me because, my '96 GSX and '01 GS neither have a gasket listed in the parts catalog and neither have any mention of a gasket or silicone being used in the service manual.

When I took the pumps out at the end of last year to change the oil, Neither of them were sealed with anything so I re-installed them with out any seal.

I wasn't having any kind of issues last year, so I don't expect to have any this year.

But everyone says I should have a gasket. So the whole thing confuses me.

When I removed the pump from my ski last year, I think for the first time. There were remnants of the original gasket, my manual did not show a gasket either, however the dealer had one in stock. Go figure.

Heres a thought,I know they make round neoprene gaskets in differant diameters for sealing flanges between metal pipes joints and such..I bought some once to put in between my kids ATV Honda Oddysey two piece rims..Just may work for seadoos..Just a thought..

no, there isnt. The "lip" from the wear ring protrudes out the pump, creating the "seal" to the hull, however, for 6 buks, i would throw in a neoprene.

when seadoo incorporated the "ride hull shoe", lack of better terms, they went away with the seal. The seal was there for the pumps that needed to be somewhat siliconed around the fittings that went thru the hull. This is where the neo seal came into play, to seal pump to hull. Depending on yr/mdl....the "shoe hull" was introduced, and then the "lip" of the wear ring, took the place of the neo seal, but like i said, i run those neoprenes on everything.

Just did my pump install, Impro's has em, 4 to 6 bones or so... work like a champ. NO goop... only needed if there is a warped housing , unlikely in most cases (per local dlrshp.) I used the right stuff on my 96 GTI and had to utilize a cumalong to get it off.

Thank you all!! I am going to install one, it cannot hurt. BTW I currently own a 96 GTX (787), 97 GTI (717). The GTI is tuff as nails never any issues, The 96 put me through hell from mpems, to carbs, pump issues, more electricle you name it.....oh yea blown engine 3 miles off shore Jones Beach Inlet (thank god for: GPS, SeaTow, bilge pumps) and the GTI my brother was on to start the tow! But I still love it, and between all the bills (you know life!) a new 4-stroke is not happening) so....as long as they still look godd and shine (they do!) I will keep rebuilding them!

I agree 100 per cent. I have a 96GTI (717), SeaDoo got it right with this ski, I know it's not the fastest ski on the lake, but as far as stability and reliability it's the best. It will do a respectible 48-50 mph, the motor (in my opinion) is the most reliable the SeaDoo ever used).

I have never done any engine work (knock on wood) and only had the pump off once to replace the wear ring.
