Neoprene pump seal

I have a 97 speedster. I have pulled the jet pumps to replace the drive shaft bellows. My question is about sealing the pump to the hull/pump shoe. When I took them apart there were no seals or RTV between the pumps and shoe. The microfiche parts list does not show a neoprene seal between the two. I did pick up 2 neoprene seals but my concern is if they will compress enough for the water pick up to seal properly. The water pick up is flush with pump housing that seals with a rubber ring, not a fitting that protrudes thru the shoe/hull.

Has anyone used the neoprene seal with this type of water pickup ? Should I use the neoprene seals or run a bead of ultra black RTV ?

Thanks for the advice

I have a 97 speedster and rebuilt my port driveshaft last season and threw a neoprene seal on it. Not sure if it did anything or if it even matters but it offers peace of mind that it's all sealed up. I'm gonna put one on the starboard side this season when I get around to doing that driveshaft too.

I won't put a ski or boat together without putting a neo on. I also like to reseal all the seams on the pump shoe

Boats never came with a pump to housing seal. Most people put them on just to make sure.
