Can anyone elaborate on exactly how delicate the needle/seat is? I pulled the needle assembly off on a rebuild and the rubber needle tip and assembly seemed extremely firm.

What parts of the needle are extremely delicate? Are there inside componets?

I have seen statements in manuals that warn of needle damage caused by letting the needle close to fast or hard against the seat. Does the normal operation of the carb open and close this seat with some force? What about the stress of the pop off test even with lubrication.

I understand its a criticle part of the carberator and to be careful.

I posted a reply in your "premium" query but would love to see others answer this too....

The needle seats importance is to keep it with a smooth taper. If the seat closes to hard, its possible to get a ring imprint around it, where it's suppose to sit.

The single most important step you can take to ensure a good seating surface is by checking the pop off pressure. If you don't have the correct set value in the spring (say you use the wrong one), then you can see anything from bogging, flooding to running out in lean conditions.

So, check the pop off and treat the seat and valve assembly with care....

Yeah, wat he said..:agree:
From my own experience, if your not modding the motor/chang'n the air intake(arrestor pods), then I suggest, you use everything in the carb rebuild kit, but re-install the "stock" needle spring/s....

Pop off is important but so is testing to see if the needle and seat are leaking. You should pour a little oil around it and pressurize below the pop off and check to see if you have any air bubbles coming out.
