I tore off the impeller housing to change the oil in my 98' GTX Limited. It is the cone piece that holds the oil. I'm just curious if I need to seal all of that back up with something or just put it all back on. I forget the names of all of the stuff I took off. I'm in Lima, Peru and don't have access to a manual or anything. It is home in the states. There was a steering piece and something else. Then the cone on the end of the impeller. The cone piece and the rest needs some kinda gasket maker or sealant?

Sealant?......

The cone to your pump, where you put the synthetic oil in, should have an "0" ring in it.

If your in need of temp repairs till you get home, seal everything with automotive blue glue (Permatex) or you could even use a chaulking gun with 100% silicone sealant/adhesive.

No. I'm in Peru. My Seadoo is in the states. I took it apart to change the pump oil in the back. I just need to know what to use to seal it all back up. I think there is more than one. I don't know if Permatex Ultra Black sealant will work or not.

Cone?......

If you did no damage taking your cone off, the "0" ring should be sufficient. But, if you wanted to be sure, I'd use an automotive sealant that's un-affected by petroleum products. That would be the black Permatex.

Your also suppose to do an air test on the pump to make sure no water is going to leak in from the impeller shaft side, back into the pump casing.

Oring

Would be best to go by a local auto parts shop and match-up a oring from an assortment. Would be nice to have a sticky made to list seadoo oring part numbers with their size for the jet pump cone housing, bailer tubes, etc.......

That would be nice to have. I don't think the oring is damaged at all. I was told locktight 515 or 518 or something like that? I may get a new oring for it. Who knows. I do have to take it some where and have the carbs tuned.

Drain plug o-ring

Have answer to 1 o-ring/s...
size #10, in plumbing dept. of Ace Hardware.....add/post pic of o-ring/bag, later..

size # 10 in plumbing dept of any hardware store? I'm headed to Lowes now for some other home fixer up items.

Just an update. I spent like 2 hours driving around town to all of the auto parts stores and can't find any Locktite 515 or 518. So what else can I use. Is that Permatex Ultra Black as good? I read the service manual for my 98' Seadoo GTX Limited and it says to use Locktite 515 or 518. That stuff is hard to find. I gave up on it. I'll call a Seadoo service place and ask them.

I was in a hurry so I actually called the local Seadoo place and got thier advice. They told me the locktite is for the bolts not to mount it. The O-ring is what keeps the oil in and water out. I"ve got it all back together now. It didn't quite take the whole 6 oz of oil. I put in as much as I could. It was up to the bottom of the fill hole. I sure appreciate all of yalls help. BIG OL TEXAS THANKS!

Your dealer is incorrect. Loctite 515 and 518 are flange sealants. Thread lock, which your dealer mentioned, is actually Loctite 242 and is simply a thread lock, not a flange sealant. Is it time for a new dealer?

There aren't very many dealers to choose from around Needville (he is about 20 minutes from where I live). I assume he is going to Brazoria for parts. The next closest place is over an hour drive, either in Houston, Clear Lake, or Dickinson.

We have slim choosing for seadoo parts around here. That is why I do my own labor and buy parts from the internet.

By the way, when you getting back in the water?

The wife and I might charge up the battery and pull it out of winter storage this weekend. Supposed to be up in the 80s...:hurray::hurray::hurray:

It might actually hit 60 here this weekend. But there will still be some ice on the water so I think I'll just wait a little longer. lol But there was a day when we'd zigzag back and forth in our cove to break up the ice and then set up our bouys to practice racing our standups.

Yep,
You need a new dealer.

Loctite?

Loctite is a brand name that is very popular. We probably all use their stuff at some point. Like Permatex, they do not make one specific type product. The first time I ever used Loctite, it was for locking bolts down from vibrating lose. That was when I did motorcycle work. It worked great. But, as their name grew, so did their product line. Now they make everything from a thread locker (tight lock or slight lock) to a flange and gasket sealant. Just like Permatex, who started off with #1 and # 2 hardening and non-hardening gasket sealant componds, now they make everything under the sun.

So, as Doc says, you might think about looking for a new dealer. As for all those numbers, ask Doc, I normally use Permatex and we use it by "colors"..............not numbers.

I myself prefer to use Wurth thread locking chemicals. Much better retention on threads than Loctite and in my most humble opinion, is a hell of a lot better than the Loctite at accomplishing it's intended task. I myself have not tried the Permatex products yet but have seen it around and might give it a try if I'm out and can't get my Wurth stuff.

I see I got yall confused. Ok. I used the locktight for the bolts holding on the cone. Then I filled it up with the synthetic oil for it. He told me if I really wanted to to put some silicone on the o-ring and then put the cone on. He said it really isn't needed though if the o-ring is in good condition. It is and was tight when I put it back together. I had to push it on. It is good. I didn't pinch it or damage it or anything. My battery is dead. Should I have pulled it before storage? What keeps it charged up? Do I need to replace whatever it is that charges it? How do I check to see if it is being charged?
