Need to convert 717 to premix

Ok my name is Josh traded for a Speedster over the winter. I had a Yamaha LS2000 a two years ago and am familiar with jet boats. Fired the boat up four days ago and oil poured out the exhaust all over the driveway. So I do some research figure the crank seals had a slow leak the oil line had a valve coming of it so I turned it off. Four days later fire it up today and after turning on the ball valve oil comes out the water in the exhaust. I know it has more than one oil line going to it looks like one to the crank and one two each carb how do I convert this to premix and avoid rebuilding these engines this boating season. I know you can't just add oil to the gas and stop putting it in the tank.

Honestly, by converting to pre-mix isn't going to change the oil coming out of the exhaust. Sometimes a few days of use will "recondition" the crank seals and slow down or stop the leak. I'd leave it as is and keep an eye on it. Perhaps run it on the hose for less than a minute, then do it again until it clears all the oil out, then hit the water. Not sure what year speedster you have but depending on how the driveshaft seals to the hull you could run it longer than a minute.

Welcome to the forum BTW. Where do you ride in SNJ?

Its a 1996 speedster about one minute on the hose produced this image if the picture worked. I was going to take it for a ride but don't want to put all that oil in the water I never ran it on the hose before today wondering if the water was just cleaning out what was in there.

There is water left in the engine when parked, sure hope it was winterized. You have that carbon ring set up on the drive shaft. You really shouldn't run it too long with that not getting cooled by water (river water), but you can disconnect it and run it longer. You will need to have the hose connected or you will over heat the engine. If you continually get that much you have a serious crank seal problem.

Yea I believe I do have a problem here strange to me in both engines at the same time not to mention just shelled out for the upholstery. Now here's my solution would be to go to premix but that would detonate the counter balance shaft ? And that's where the oil is leaking from? Is the purpose of the 2 stroke oil going into the bottom of the crankcase only to lube the counterbalance shaft or does it lube the crank as well sorry for all the questions never had a 717 before had a 951 years ago in a XPL but never gave me any problems and I sold it. Just got a RX in trade with jet boat from same guy "A PWC Mechanic".

I don't really have a lot to add here, Racerxxx is one of the best on this forum and you can believe what he says. Converting to premix will do nothing for the problem that you are having, if anything it will on cause the use of more oil. Your boat doesn't have a counterbalance shaft.

Thanks a lot guys for the advice so far looks like I am going to take the boat out and run it see if the problem subsides for all I know that ball valve on the oil line doesn't work I am going to start over see if I can make the boat usable.

I was toiling with this same problem, my engine would hydro lock 5 minutes after clearing it out. I ended up having both engines rebuilt and being done with trying to band aid it.

Actually I went with remans and they are very reasonable. Being as how I really underpaid for this boat, I am happy with this decision and knowing I have 2 brand new engines in it. Hoping for a trouble free season this year and I think this is a step in the right direction.

Good luck, I tried the cut off valve on the lines and it did not stop the problem, but, my one engine was leaking like a sieve.

Yea they don't Hydro lock the drivers side can be hard to crank but they run great just idle high. I will rebuild the engines myself I just don't have the time in the next three weeks to pull both engines and rebuild both. Took it out for a short ride it was a lot more fun then my LS 2000 no oil residue in the water floating. Only could run it for about ten minutes took me five of those minutes trying to find the pee holes found them on the tow hook that's a crazy place. If no rain tomorrow morning I will take in out again. Repost the results.
