I purchased a used 1997 Challenger 1800 and the tech who is servising the boat determined I need a new carb (non fuel pump) for the port engine. A local see doo dealer is around $550 for this one carb, any ideas or is this about the market price? According to the tech a rebuild will not solve the issue.

I also needed new carbies and i have found Mikuni BN40I-38-26(pto) and BN40I-38-27(mag) are the same as the BN40I-38-11 and BN40I-38-12 that were fitted to my boat. They bolted on with the same settings and run perfect!!:hurray:
P.S. half the price to!!!!!

If you rebuild the carb with all new parts it is identical to a brand new carb. He is trying to get you to blow the extra money on a new carb instead of just rebuilding yours. I have never heard a mechanic say you need a new carb we can't rebuild yours. That is such BS and I can't stand dealers. That is why I always try to find a back yard mechanic or small engine repair shop. They aren't out to rip you off but just live their life and make money.

PTO carb.....

The carb on our Rotax without the fuel pump is the PTO carb. I don't see why he said you have to replace it. Normally, you only have to replace them if something has broken, then you can actually replace the broken part, not the entire carb.

If you purchase through our parts store, the PTO carb is about $426. But I don't think you need a new one. I think you need a new tech though. Bring him into our website and show him our parts store. Tell him to show you which part it is in your carb that is broken. I think he's just incapable of rebuilding your carb and is looking for the easy way out at your expense!

BOY! that is precisely why we are here. Many doos out there, and many dealers who don't know squat about them!

If I had a nickel for every bad suggestion that made a seadoo dealer a lot of money I'd be rich...Find a new tech to work on your seadoo.

New carb

Thank you for the advice, the information didn't come from a Doo dealer it came from an independant tech. The carb itself is cracked, how this happened I have no idea. The tech has no incentive to have me buy a new one as he would make more money on the labor to rebuild the existing one. I bought the carb today and not through the tech he gaines nothing having me buy a new one. Perhaps he provided bad advice I have no way of verifing but he has no incentive as far as I can see to stear me the wrong way.

Ok we just assumed it was a Seadoo Tech because that sounds like something some of them say to try to get you to spend more money. That is nuts that the carb housing itself is cracked. Hopefully your replacement carb does the trick.

Welding.....

I probably would have still found a way to fix it....thats just my way. Had you said it was cracked to begin with, I would not have been as harsh as I was in my previous post. But, there is still ways of repairing than replacing.
