Hi All,
I am new here but I hope someone can help with my question. Last Friday a neighbor gave my son a 2000 model Seadoo Speedster jet boat and trailer. The reason is that his (my neighbor) brother-in-law took the boat out of storage two weeks ago (without my neighbor's knowledge)to the local lake and threw a rod thru the engine wall.

My son (15yr old) is extremely excited and I explained that it may not be worth repairing. The boat and trailer is in remarkable shape as my neighbor kept the boat indoors even in the summer. So we have spent all weekend looking for engine re-bulders online and my son spent some time yesterday calling around. Spring break is this week so he and his buddies spent yesterday washing and waxing the boat and generally sitting in it with the radio playing on our driveway.

I need help and or advice on finding a repair shop. The engine block is shot so at best I need a re-manufactured engine or need to find a used one.

Specifications are:
model: 2000 Seadoo Speedster
engine: Mercury V6 M2 with carburetor
size: I believe it is the 200 (a couple of sizes are available)

Any help is appreciated. If it is not worth fixing I believe we could easily part out the boat and sell the trailer as both are in great shape other than the engine.

P.S. The neighbor and his brother-in-law are not talking and neighbor is considering pressing charges for taking (stealing) the boat without asking, Ahhhh..you gotta love family.

Thanks

If it has carbs, it's a 210. That's a V6 based on Mercury's 2.5L engine block.

You'll spend several thousand dollars to replace that block. Since you got it for free, maybe that's not a big deal.

If you want to part it out, there's at least a couple thousand dollars in components on that engine alone that you can harvest.

Another option is to find another Mercury powered boat where the engine is OK but the boat is trashed (like after a big storm, where the hull has been totaled). You can pull that engine and put it in your boat.

1. is the title signed over
2. if charges are pressed, wouldn't the boat be needed for evidence against the brother in law? i don't know.

just wondering a few questions to myself before you put any money or effort into it.

Yes, we have the title for both the boat and trailer. I have a notery at my office so all that is taken care of. I have a friend that owns a machine shop directly across the street from my business and he says he can repair the hole in the block. True???

I don't know but he says we can re-build the engine. Any advice?

You will need a new block. BAD news is that is very expensive. Unless you wanna invest thousands, dont let the boy get his hopes up on boating. the GOOD news is, you can easily part out the rest of the boat. I'll take a few cosmetic pieces myself. if you wanna sell stuff let me know.

RFoster130, I don't mind spending some money since we don't have anything in it. Besides, I also have a large boat in a marina so I might as well have a small boat with a money hole in it as well. If we decide to part it out I will let you know.

seadoobie, thanks. I will check out the links. I have already called crowleymarine and they have an engine for 3500.00. Still looking around so at least I have one option.

Everyone else, please keep the ideas coming.
