So this will be alittle long but I have been dealing with this for a while and need help. So... I was given 2 doo's about 10 years ago. The owner said both were not functioning and did not have time to fix them. They sat for about 8 years before I finally started working on them a year or so ago. The first, a 1995 sea-doo spx 657, I completely tore apart and rebuilt. It runs fantastic. The other, a 1997 sea-doo spx 787, is a different story. I ran a few tests, cleared the fuel lines, threw a new battery in and it started right up. I took it out once and it was a BEAST! Towards the end of the run I think it was runnng out of gas a started to bog down/sputter so I just threw it on the trailor thinking it was low on gas. I took it out the next time and it just wasnt the same. Bogging down, no acceleration. I took it out, cleaned the carb fuel filters, put in new spark plugs and tried again. Same thing, bogging, no acceleration. I took it out of the water again and tore the carb apart. Cleaned it all out, changed the fuel lines to new black lines. It fired right up out of water and revved like it should. I put it back in the water and it would accelerate slowly but then max out at like 1/4 the speed/revs it should. I messed with the carb screw settings thinking it was a tuning issue. No avail. After about 2 hours of this I decided to take it in. By happenstance I felt the engine block and the PTO side was warm and the mag side was cold! I had check spark prior and both plugs had good spark. After I got the ski home I took the plugs out and the PTO side looked like normal light brown wear, like it should. The mag side though, looked like brand new! Like it had never fired! When I was in the water before I took it out, I removed the mag side plug wire off the plug to see if it would run similar, but it would not start.

At this point I have no idea what is going on. Why did it run like a BEAST at first but since then has been bogging down? What is going on with the spark plugs? I cleaned the carbs, replaced the fuel lines, put in new plugs.

I need help. Thanks!

First check compression, 150 is perfect and it is done at 120 psi.

Follow the carb rebuild thread sticky and change all Genuine Mikuni parts. You can't just "clean" these carbs and slap them back together, it will kill the engine. Stop trying to ride it the way it is as it isn't going to magically get better and you will ruin the engine.
