I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem ? I have a 96 xp with a VE 920 motor, Microtouch Rev Limiter, Factory Spec 2 pipe with ECWI water injection. I still have the OEM water box with OEM water Regulator valve. The ski runs perfect on land with or without a hose attached. When I put it in the water it will run fine at half to 3/4 throttle, if I keep speeds moderate I have no problems. As soon as I decide to push the seadoo's true power a little it runs great for a couple minutes and then dies abruptly. The engine turns over put will not start. After being towed in and putting the ski back on the trailer( always a fun time ) It will start after a few tries and spit out a fair amount of water. I am guessing that under power there is too much water getting into the exhaust system and not exiting causing the engine to stall. I adjusted the water regulatror valve to what I believe is the factory setting : TURN THE RED SCREW IN UNTIL IT IS FLUSH WITH THE BLACK TOP SECTION AND THEN TURN OUT 2 CLICKS.....I have a different water box that I may try, after that I am Stuck.......Any Idea's ? Summer is almost done Here, need to ride !
Thanks,
George

Check all your fuel lines real well. Especially the pulse line running off the case. If any of these have a hole in them, when at full throttle, it will keep starving itself for fuel and then cut out. Look carefully under engine in hull for signs of fuel leaking and settling in the bottom of the hull. If you were getting too much water you see signs of flooding in the engine. Pull the plugs and turn it over a few times to see if water spurts out or white oily residue on the plugs.

Like NSW said, it sounds like a fuel problem. Like it runs fine, until it drains the carbs then dies.

And, he is pointing you at the fuel pump.

I'd say to also check the fuel selector valve. Try reserve, and see if it goes away.

But, as NSW said, it sounds like a fuel problem, and related to the crankcase pulse line, and or fuel pump. Sounds like it will pump slow. But, when you demand alot of fuel, it runs the carbs dry, and dies.

PS water in exhaust is likely due to towing it, which cycles the coolant water. Without the motor running, it sends water back up in the motor. You should pinch off the IN line, when towing.

Towing......

:agree: With Nate on your water in the exhaust. Towing would be the number one culprit, if your not pinching off the water inlet hose.

Being towed, the water moving through the nozzle will create enough water pressure to fee your cooling system. Of course, if the motor isn't running, it's being built up in the exhaust. Nothing to push it out.

The motor. Let me get this straight. You've got an old 96 hull, that had the old 787cc engine in it and you've put a 9? type engine in it? Is it from the 947cc engine or some special mod engine? I've never heard this before. Before I can access the problem with shut down, I'd have to know more about the motor. Like Nate and NSW said, sounds like a fuel issue. With a motor that big, probably a volume issue. What kind of carbs are you running?

The engine is a VE 920 which came from PPG in Florida, the the crankshaft is the original 787, as is the magneto, everything else has been upgraded. I also have a VE Head with domes on there, running 93 octane with yamalube R2 premix 40:1. I have Buckshot 46mm carbs, running NGK BR9ES plugs, the fuel lines were just replaced. I don't know where the fuel pump is located ? I'm sure I've probably seen it in there somewhere. Is there a way to test the fuel pump ? Much of this work has been done by someone else. As far as the towing goes that does make sense, but this has happened to me before right at the boat ramp, before going anywhere. It would die and then as soon as I put it back on the trailer, it would start after a few tries, and spit out a lot of water. This led me to believe that the water box could be bad ? I adjusted the water regulator valve and now it only dies after going full throttle, after a few minutes. I could have more than one problem here ? I will check EVERY fuel line and the condition of the spark plugs tomorrow.
Thanks
