Long story short - had pump rebuilt a couple years back... PDO, carbon seal, new impeller and wear ring... rebuilt the 657x and even replaced the MPEM with a seadoo's as it died during a bad winter...

Hit a jump, didn't mean to, and even cut the power... but after that, it just won't stop cavitating. Not seeing any water coming into the boat... wear ring/impeller looks fine and even the mechanic has no idea.

He said the grate looks sealed well, the pump looks sealed well... they can't seem to figure it out.

any thoughts? could it be hull damage? I hope not

What year sportster?
I didn't think the 657's used the carbon ring.
Could be PRO or impeller splines, driveshaft splines, driveshaft seal or pump related.

So they couldn't figure out anything... verified there is no play in any of the PTO, any seal issue, proper wear ring clearance, no wear on the impeller... no damages to the grate or the pump but couldn't fix the cavitation.

Spent about $200 on labour to be told "nothing"
So I took the pump off myself and re-siliconed everything...

Cavitation has now gone away.

while I was enjoying my day out, the throttle cable broke... ffs
but at least at this point I know my pump was pretty much is in good shape (was rebuilt by previous owner a couple years back)
Motor was rebuilt w/ carb and with a new stator and starter
MPEM was also replaced
christ... hoses, manifold/exhaust...

after all that... throttle cable sigh

When you reinstall the cable,,,make sure that when you have the throttle at WOT,,,that there is a bit of play at the butterflies,,,or you will break it again down the road
