OK, but will it start in F or R? I can't remember if the switch is normally open or closed. But, say it is normally open in neutral position, the boat will start and should hit the low RPM rev limiter when revved up. Now if you put it in forward or reverse and rev it up and your switch is disconnected the MPEM still thinks your in neutral since the MPEM is looking for the signal saying you switched into F or R.
Or, if it's normally closed in neutral the boat won't start and you would get the 4 beeps warning you the control handle is not in neutral. One way or the other something has to be there for it to start OR get out of the low rpm rev limiter. You can't just take it out of the system. I mean you can but you would need to wire a switch in it's place.
So try and start in in F or R.
