Boat runs perfectly fine once I engage full throttle it runs like a dream after 10-15 min it sounds like rpms are redlining and forces me to draw back the throttle. I shut her down for 2-3 minutes then full power, I feel like it’s a fuel issue. Should I drain fuel and run non-ethanol 87 and add sea foam? I recently had the carbs rebuilt and a few fuel lines replaced get good compression (125 all across the board) and had the stator replaced, now the shop is charging me 1200 for 2 switch boxes and another stator!!! I believe it has bad fuel and the shop said it was ok. I know there is a post about this but can not find it, FYI it drops and doesn’t pass 40 rpms on the gauge

Question: How is the engine running perfectly if it does not rev over 4000rpm? Max rpm should be about 6000rpm.

SeaFoam can be death for a 2-stroke engine. It dilutes the miniscule amount of oil between piston and cylinder and can cause a piston (or 6) meltdown.

Have you check fuel delivery from each pump? Your pressure will be low compared to an efi engine, but you need what you need. How is the pulse pump? How about fuel filters? Especially at the lift pump. There is a strainer in the tank to keep boulders out of your fuel. If a flake or leaf gets next to the tank pickup, it could be a major blockage. Do you have any gray fuel lines? Replace it with proper size CG approved hose. The gray hose can delaminate and clog.

Not sure why your shop thought you need a stator. Maybe they had a boat payment of their own. Did you get your old one back? 2 stators???? The electronics on these engines are pretty robust and not failure prone. Did you get the black boxes back?

How old is your gas? Has it sat in a tank that is 1/4 full or completely full? That tank will "breathe" and inhale moisture-laden air in the evening as it cools. This moisture can condense inside the tank. A near empty tank can inhale 35 gallons of air, while a full tank can only inhale a gallon or less. Multiply that times the number of days it has been sitting. Do you have any way to install a test tank of fresh gas? That could tell you if your gas is really bad.

Compression- 125psi is not good. It's actually kind of low. Was it tested with all spark plugs out and wot?

Tim, thank you and please excuse me as I pick my melted brain from the ground lol. It runs at around 5800-6k at full throttle but then the after 15 min it starts making the sound of redlining pull back to neutral I give it throttle that’s when it doesn’t pass 4K. I did get my old statue back and the tips where black at the gel or silicone location. I did not change the switch boxes. When I got the boat it has 3/4 tank ran until 1/2 then topped it off with mid-grade, now I have about 1/4 tank left. Shop said that compression was good? (Art of deception) all fuel lines replaced (no gray lines). I will open the tank and check after I drain the old fuel that’s in there. Do I need a new fuel tank gasket after pulling the fuel pump out? Thanks for the information on sea foam, what heet? And adding non-ethanol? I’m a new boater and have silly questions, and asking the shop my questions come with expensive answers about replacing parts that don’t make any sense. I will start with fresh fuel and see what happens, I added that star-tron fuel treatment to the 1/2 tanks and after a few runs it ran quieter and smoother but still get the sound. Shop said they check the fuel pressure, it runs normal to me for hours until going WOT, could it be injector issues? I have the EFI M2 but you would know that already, anything helps. Again thank you I will look at it this weekend and run it on the lake once again.

What is "the sound of redlining"? My engine runs 6200rpm until I back off. I run name-brand 87 octane 10% ethanol gas. Any higher octane is just more expensive with no benefit.

Have you tried loosening the gas cap a bit to test that the fuel system vent is functioning? Make sure water spray can't enter tank.

Fuel tank pickup- bow of boat should be down. Master switch OFF. Remove hose clamps on pickup tube. Remove tube. It will take some effort. The tube and sender are a little delicate. No gasket needed. There is no pump in the tank. You cannot syphon from the fill hole on the side of the boat.

If engine runs 6000rpm, you probably don't have major injector problems.

What is "heet"? The heat of friction and combustion gases.

Have you checked the tps? It controls fuel/air from about 15% to 75% throttle.

Update: changed hose from filter to engine, it was cheap and flimsy. I’m guessing at full throttle the hose would clamp up and not letting the engine receive enough fuel, took it out after replace to Spring Glen had no issues, but now my fuel gauge and speedometer doesn’t work !!!

Update: changed the fuel pump and filter and ran like new but now I get no spark, I’m guessing the stator went bad. Any advise??? Checked all wires and fuses, kill switch and spark check and no spark, fly wheel just turns with no crank over.

Have you checked the wires from the trigger that come out from under the flywheel? Those wires were crap on the OEM trigger. Test the trigger by the book. Check all your ground wires. There are several. What is your battery voltage while cranking?

If your battery was charging, your stator has not failed. Your stator is basically the alternator. The trigger sits inside the stator.

If you still have the OEM kill switch, that is suspect. The rubber weakens and fails to hold the center plunger depressed and will kill your spark. From the kill switch, trace the black/yellow wire. That is the kill wire. It shows up on top of the engine, just aft of the flywheel. Disconnect and test again.

Checked all the black and yellow wires, did change the battery due to low voltage while cranking it, it was fine last night and this morning no spark. A shop did replace the stator I called them so I’m dropping the boat off on Thursday. Possible bad CDI STATOR
