Took my 03 sportster 4tec 155 out to the lake this weekend. boat ran fine saturday afternoon. didnt do anything too wild as the lake was really choppy. just road around a little. took the family out again sunday am and road around for about an hour. i ran all the way across the lake into some coves giving my mother and 3 year old daughter a casual lake tour. drove back across the lake and i was pulling into our cove the temp light on the dash cluster came on and gave me a very loud continuous beeeep. i pulled the dess key off shutting the motor down and let it sit for a minute or two. fired the boat back up and beep came on again. i decided to ease into the throttle and at least get back to the bank. wanted to get my mother and 3yr old daughter back to shore and off the boat no matter what.

I cut the motor off as we coasted back into the cove, dropped anchor. pulled the motor cover off and looked/felt around. no steam or smoke, but it did smell slightly like something had overheated. plastic cover over the spark plug area was hot to the touch. i went ahead and let it sit for 30 minutes or so and cool down. dove under and stuck my hands in and around the grate guard area that protects the impeller shaft. could find anything stuck or that i had sucked up.

The boat started right up after letting it sit and didnt give me any issues as i drove it straight back to he dock without any warning lights or beeps. What could cause the original temp light and continuous beep?

While i am asking, what exatcly does this warning light/sensor measure the temp on? The engine coolant temp, oil temp, or exhaust temp?

Having the same issure here. From reading I hear its the exhaust temp sensor. You can buy a $400.00 candoo scanner to read it but I figured I would just change it first. Lot cheaper. Part should be in 8/13/12 Monday. So I will try to install that night. Get in touch if yo have any questions Kevin.Pierret@Halliburton.com or 337-572-3266 office phone.
