MYSTERY object in jet drive??

Hi,
Mabey a little help with this. Was out all day on my 03 sportster le with the girl. about 4 hours into my ride the boat started to shake real bad. lost a lot of top speed and had to be real easy getting to speed otherwise a real bad vibration. Got it back to the dock and located in the jet drive a 1/2 wide and about 6 inch long piece of black plastic. it looked like it came off the boat somewhere. i looked into the intake under the boat and could see that it broke off just before the first impeller. some sort of black ring hard plastic??
don't know what it is or if i can still run the boat without it??
Any help please.
repair shop said 4 weeks until the they can look at it:(

Sounds like you wear ring around your impeller... you could get the parts and do it yourself with a little help from the seadoo manuals. Becoming a premium member will allow you access to the shop repair manuals and give you step by step instructions on the wear ring and impeller replacement.. as well as info on all other repairs you may need to do.
 
Hi thanks, i thought thats what it might be.
do you think i could run it until i can get it in the shop?
I'm not that good with working on sea-doos, and it looks like it might be a pain in the ass!
 
it isn't that bad. pump comes out with standard hand tools. wear ring isn't a big deal to change. you can take the nozzle off the back of the pump and clearly see the impeller and the wear ring to check condition.

No more running till it's fixed i'm afraid... OR YOU COULD FIND YOURSELF UP FOR A JET PUMP REBUILD!! $$$$$$$$$:rofl:
 
i never work on seadoos, but I change my wear ring about two days ago. i don't know if is working yet since a have not put it in the water, but it was easier than what i though. If you have the money i will encourage you to take to the shop , but if you want to save money and work a little bid you should do it.
 
While you're in there...

Check to ensure your oil level is okay on the back of the shaft. I've changed and rebuilt my pump twice in 14 years, and its an easy little detail to overlook. Invest in a Clymer shop manual, if you're like me, my local shop is typically 6 weeks behind, so you'll lose a lot of nice weather waiting instead of doing it yourself, much less saving some huge labor costs (assuming your time is free)

Do you have a seadoo shop manual? Here's a idea for you. You could join as a "premium member". As a premium member you can down load a authentic seadoo manual from the seadoo manual library. In the library is a variety of manuals for almost all years and models. You can view as many as you like on line as a PDF file, or download it and print it for your personal and privet use. There are operator manuals and repair manuals for you to do your own repairs on your seadoo. The repair manuals have everything from troubleshooting, repair procedures to winterizing. It contains wire diagrams torque specs and pictures for disassemble and assemble instructions. In the spec sheets it tells everything needed to maintain oil changes, spark plug gaps, carburetor rebuilds and impeller wear ring tolerances. Click on the "Seadoo Manuals" link at the top of the page for more details. If you need any help or get in a jam, we are always here to answer your questions too.
