Mystery connector in dash

Hi All,

I recently purchased a used 2000 challenger 2000. The buzzer wasn't going off when I put the key on like it did on my old boat so I started poking around. After some time, I got it working. Turns out there are actually 2 buzzers.

Anyway, there are some unused connectors in the dash. The first looks like the plugs that go into the gages. There are 5 wires labeled w25-w27 on the connector. It's sort of hard to see all of them. I have the 2001 shop manual but it does list these wire numbers. Maybe because it's the wrong year?

The other 2 connectors are an orange and a black spade type connector.

Am I missing a part? Are these supposed to be connected to anything?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
David

Thanks for your help Tony!

the orange and black ones are basically in the middle right off the inside of the dash. the connector is right behind the gas gage. there isn't a lot of extra slack so I can't imagine it would plug in very far from the gas gage. maybe there is another gage that can fit in the gas gage's spot? please see attached.

I am not one to be put off investigating some loose connectors. so... I bought the manual for the actual year of my boat. I still don't have the 2000 mercury manual so I still don't know for sure but at least I now have the wiring diagram for this connector. see attached. basically it is for an "auxiliary" gauge. They terminate in the Instrument harness.

connectors 25, 26 and 27 are just power and grounds. the interesting ones are w90 and w8. I found the same colours on a different wiring diagram from mercury (tan and green/white) for temperature and trim. I am assuming that some where in the seadoo world there was some sort of trimable pump? maybe there is a temperature / trim gauge?

I am just guessing since it is not guaranteed that these colours line up with these wires since they are mixed between seadoo and mercury.

Anyone have insights?

It's trim for an out board.

Basically... the sportjets are just outboard engines. (mounted inboard) So, the wiring harness is generic for all of the "Family". There's also a water pressure gauge, and an oil pump warning. But they didn't put those senders in our engines.

If I recall correctly, the tan wire can be used for a TEMP gauge, look back for a thread that I started a year ago, as I finally got that to work. One thing to pay attention to if you are doing this is that these engines run fairly cool about 120F, so you need to get a temp gauge that spans that range correctly... 60-180.

thanks Henry! i'll take a look. is was kind of thinking about plugging it into my gas gauge and see what happens. I know its not a good idea, but its sort of like when you get a suspicious email attachment that says something in broken English about a huge pay day... I just really want to open it to see :)

Hey All,

Sooo, I know this thread is old but I worked out what one of this connectors is for. I there was another post asking the same question recently but I cannot find it anymore so I thought I would update this one.

The orange and black connectors are for the 12volt jack that is in the dash of some boats. there is a fuse for it as well. in my boat there are 2 10a fuses for 12 volts jacks but only 1 is installed in the glove box. maybe the 2nd was an option? or maybe just all the wiring harnesses included this so they could put it in if they wanted.

I still don't know what the mystery "auxiliary gauge" is yet. if anyone knows please let me know
