Well I brought this basket case junk home over the weekend for a parts machine.

Not so sure now if I can junk it for part's for the 99 we have or try and find motor for this 98.

Got 10 miles from home and hit monsoon rains. Could on drive about 25-30 mph it was pouring roads were standing with water. So it got soaked good on way home.

Hole in bottom of block from busted connecting rod. I have not done any research to how bad it is busted. The person I got it from said the hole is on the PTO end and he found the chunk knocked out of block under the engine.
My intentions when buying it was for the hood and seats to put on a 99 GTX. But after looking at it ,it's in great shape to be honest it is in better shape than the 99. So I think I am going to see if I can find a good block or have this 1 repaired.

Well I picked up a block today for this rascal. Not sure what the problem was with motor. The guy said it came out of a 98 GTX Limited it would crank over but not start. He did not check it for spark, compression, or fuel just pulled the motor. It turns over smooth by hand not rough spots. Guess I should have asked him how much for the RAVES and carbs.

Well you will have a long wait. The back log at the re builders is loooooooooooong. I have no idea when I will ship them the block yet or get it back.

Gene,

I know. I am looking for someone to do cylinder work. Group K will not put it back stock. They only do the performance work on the cylinders.

I stuck between a rock and hard place. Shops got 2 year back log on the books no one to rework the cylinders. I have not reached out yet to competitive cranks o see what there back log is on doing my crank and counter shaft.

Looks like the 98 will keep the cover on it in garage for a long time.

That's insane. I can get cylinders bored in a couple days here. I'm getting ready to bore to myself but I sure don't like it. Ha ha. My buddy that does them is out of town for 3 weeks but I have another guy that generally 3 days and I get them back, sometimes the next day.

Any shop can do that work. It really isn't a big deal to bore a cylinder. LOL A guy I know sends cylinders to get bored in Carolina and pays $35 per cylinder. I don't know where he sends them. Message me and we'll get it done.

I'm getting ready to bore a couple RFI cylinders in my lathe today. I have great resrouces in my area but I waited to long and need to get this done. My friend VJ can bore and hone two cylinders in less than 30 minutes. Prolly less than 20 minutes but he is out of town. I have another guy that bores cylinders with sometimes a single day turn around time. I don't rush them so... 3 days maxx for him.

I love that ski !!!! I just finished one just like it but it wasn't that SCHWEET. I have another one in the yard of the same color I am plotting to have ready next spring.

Gene,

I got a shop that can bore them no problem. He just does not want to replace the sleeves as he has never done 1. I wanting to go back to original bore with the build and then down the road I have something left to bore if damage is not bad. And then I will still have stock RAVES that will not need to be replaced because they been shaved to fit oversize bore.

That isn't true, I send cylinders to Group K to have bored all the time and no performance work at all.

There is no reason to not have your cylinders bored to the next oversize unless they are already at 1.0mm over.

That's a long time away for sure. I've got cylinders that are stock bore you got 3 sizes up from there but that can all be destroyed by the right failure. Bore the cylinders a move on. Ride it like you stole it.

We just go to our local auto head and block shop,,not cheap up here,,,ontario canada...$150 per cylinder,,,we look at the old piston,,whether it is stock or whatever over,,,and try to get him to bore it over to the next available piston oversize,,,and 2 to 3 days later,,,its done,,,(don't forget to champfer your ports).

I put my borescope down in the cylinders I did not see anything stamped on the piston tops. I am going to have to pull the heads and see what is in these 2 951's I have. I was hoping to at least have 1 good core block out of the 2 to do exchange or rebuild for the 98 GTX.
