Its been a week and a half since I dropped off my C180 at the dealer to have a host of warranty issues resolved.

Several gel-coat cracks in the inner liner.

Cracks in the bench under-seat storage bins.

Windshield frame is bubbling rust at every screw and windshield has optical distortion in drivers view.

FM radio has poor reception.

Steering cable creaks against cup holder when steering.

Shifter very difficult to actuate between N and F and F and back to N.

Center bench seat cushion snaps pulled out of fiberglass.

At this point nothing has been done. Service adviser states that BRP is not getting back to them with approval to perform repairs and they are giving the dealer the run around. Spoke with this dealer yesterday and they said they are getting the dealership owner involved and he was supposed to contact the regional rep to get action on this.

I never had an issue getting warranty work done on my Utopia 205 but I suspect something is changing at BRP and they are getting very difficult with warranty claims...........Very disappointing.

Damn Craig, hate to hear the hassle....
I bet BRP is having to deal with a ton of customer disappointment on the c180 05-08 Supercharger flaws, and hell who knows what else..
The Customer is always right motto is steadily leaving the world, and business's sticking it to ya once ya leave is taking over.....

took my utopia to dealer for warranty last week.has cracks on deck cover.star cracks in five spots and some long running cracks.dealer said deck cover not covered under hull warranty.

Thunder, I agree with what your saying. Terri at poppys is the exception to this rule.

Global, my boat is still within the factory one year warranty and these gelcoat cracks should be covered.

Craig

Just got a call from my service advisor. BRP has authorized repairs. Gelcoat is being repaired now and parts are on order.

Craig - you have any pics of these cracks? I've got some oddities on my swim deck (marks that look kinda like cracks). Couple that with the "creaks" my swimdeck makes I think I'll need to get that looked at.

By the way, I have the same "optical distoration" - weird. Looks like when you put on someone elses prescription glasses! Let me know if they fix it....

No pics

Mike,

I dont have any pictures of the gelcoat issues.....Sorry man I wish I did. As for the optical distortion, They said they have an entire new windshield on order. I'm not sure if it was the bubbling by all the screws that did it or if it was the distortion. I'll be sure to let you know if the same distortion is present in the new one.

Look over your boat with a fine tooth comb inside and out for gel-coat damage. I imagine most boats have something.

Just a short story about BRP and a (used to be) local dealer...

Bought my 08 C180 april 08. Because of summer schedule only put on 5 hours. Stereo busted second time out. Figured I would get it fixed sometime before 1 year warranty expired. I took the boat to get winterized by local marina. They made me aware of a bunch of cracks in the back landing of the boat. I took it to dealer to have that and the stereo fixed. It was an obvious defect in the gelcoat. Even the dealer said so. But BRP first responded to say they do not cover stress cracks under warranty. HUH, so I talk to a lawyer and find out my options. As soon and BRP found out I spoke to lawyer they said hold on and had the dealer take it to a body shop to get estimate. SO they did and then BRP approved the work to be done. So my boat was at the bidy shop down the road. AT this point I am about 6 weeks from the time i dropped it off and getting estimate and hearing back from BRP. So, boat is done but dealer is waiting for payment frm BRP. ok, its winter I am not ina rush. Come to find out the dealer shuts thier doors due to the economy. Left me high and dry. Body shop still hasnt gotten paid. Body shop and I both try contacting BRP numerous time. never a call back. almost 6 months go by. I get free winter storage courtesy of the body shop. I finally talk the body shop into letting me take boat back now that its getting nice out. They draft up a letter that i acdepted the work they did as satisfactory etc. and I am on my way. But without a radio. The delaer took it out to be replaced and of course never got to it. So i take my boat. probbaly 2 months go by and finally BRP calls me. Appologizes they were busy all winter with snow mobile stuff. Ok. So anyway the guy is nice and listens to this whole story. The guy then calls the body shop and the mane gets paid. Then I tell him that i had to purchase a brand new radio for my boat and he offered to send me a 200 credit towards any BRP product. and he did. It was in the form of a letter so i dont know if it works yet. But I just rounded 12 hours on my boat in the end of teh second season and my speed ometer doesnt work, my bilge pump went bad already and the reception still sucks in the radio.

Seatys,

Man I totally feel your pain bro! The single biggest factor in buying any boat is the dealer. If you have a good dealer the experience will be good....If you dont its a crap shoot. I think the dealer is more important than the brand you pick when it comes to boats IMHO.

Where I live the closest dealer where I got it was about an hour drive. I didnt mention these otehr thinsg about the dealer. The whole delivery process sucked to begin with. It was suppsoed to be cleaned and preped for me when i picked it up. They had it sitting outside in april with no top and it was loaded with pollen that had tuned into a mess when it rained. The carpet was jammed in the center storage sitting in black water. They were also supposed to have it detailed. When I pciedk it up it was sitting under a tree. They pulled it around and what do i notice? NOTHING was cleaned. In fact it was durtier from sitting under a tree. And to make ti worse they had me wait while they cleaned it and dont u know ALL the white apholstery was all stained form the pollen. In addition the snap in cover that was suppsoed to be installed never got installed. But I drove and hour to pick it up and I wanted to go home with it. So the next week i took it back to get the top put on. I asked to have all the dealer stickers taken off too. I picked it up a week later and cover looked nice but the ugle delaer stickers were still on it. I waited 3 months for the dealer to get new apholstery delivered under warranty. So back again i went with the boat to get that installed and fix snaps that broke already from the new cove they put on and fix the stereo. Week later went to pick up. Apholstery looked good. Snaps were never fixed and stereo the blamed on the antenna wire that they claimed was cheap and suggested I put a better one on. I explained the CD player didnt work either and try and answer that one. SO they fixed the snaps while I waited. Then after teh season I take it back on last time for the back deck cracks. That would be the last time that boat seen the dealer. Thats a lot of trips for a brand new boat with only 5 hours on it at the time.

After three weeks at the dealer I picked up my C180 yesterday. Several items were completed and several yet to be competed. I wanted the boat for Labor day weekend so I picked it up while waiting for some unessential parts to come in.

Items that were completed:

Shifter difficult to actuate from N to F and F to N. This cost me $175 as there was corrossion at the bucket mechanism that was causing the issue. The previous owner used the boat in salt water and the dealer had to do some honing to get everything free'd up and working correctly.

Steering cable was creaking against cup holder at helm and they re-secured to eliminate noise.

Three gel coat repairs completed.

Ceramic supercharger washers replaced with Titanium washers at no charge. Dealer claims my ceramic one was starting to slip ;-)

Several seat cushion snaps needed replacement.

One under seat storage bin replaced due to massive gel coat cracking.

Items that were not completed:

Windshield is scheduled to be replaced but the one they received was damaged so another is on order.

Stereo is on order.

Second under seat storage bin on backorder(gelcoat cracking).

Following a morning lake run I have identified two issues:

When first running the boat at WOT I achieved a max RPM of 7940(exactly what I got before). After about an hour of running all I could see was 7800 and slightly less top speed. Coud my new washers be slipping already???

Just discovered more gelcoat cracking near the port-side bow grab handle area above the flat speaker location.

Boat returning to dealer for another two week stay....Oh Joy!

Just got off the lake today and was doing a once over of my boat, noticed spider cracks starting to form on my swim platform......guess it'll be going into the dealership after tommorows outing.

Cyph,

Welcome to the club(no pun intended).

Love the Seadoo designs and performance. I only wish the quality was a little better.

one of my spaps for the carpet pulled out today also.

just hit my 10 hours, so time to get it into the dealership.

Guys,

Just updating here....My C-180 is still at the shop.....Been there now for the last 33 of 36 days. They are in SLOW MOTION getting my stuff corrected.

In all, it requires $3700 in warranty repairwork. Its getting done but painfully slow. I am hopeful it'll be another week and I'll have it back.....The nice Florida weather will arrive soon so I'm good with it....When its 95 degrees in the summer I'm not real big into being outdoor anyway. Fall in Florida is the best!
