Well, After 5 months my boat is finally complete. The final missing item came in yesterday which was the under seat storage bin for one side of the rear bench seat. While the last five months have been frustrating getting missing parts, getting my warranty duration and coverage issue resolved and of course all the "new boat" gremlins worked out, I'm finally whole.

In the end I've learned a few things. For one, BRP does not like dealing with the public. At every step they pushed me right back to the dealer even when the dealer wasn't responsive. With that said, I believe behind the scenes they were working to do the right thing. With every warranty repair Barneys of St. Pete was faced with BRP ponied up and paid the claims and there were many that equated to over $4000.

Smith Powersports made it an interesting experience but in the end Charles(owner) was a stand-up guy and made it right to my satisfaction. He even covered the cost of my 10 hour service performed by Barneys. Because of the way he resolved my issues we had I always suggest that people looking for a boat try them for prices. In fact, I'm thinking about a 23' and I will give Fred at Smith Powersports a shot. Most likely however if I go 23 it'll probably be the Yamaha.

Ya if i was to buy a NEW JET boat it would be yamaha. A couple down the street from me Has a The high end Yamaha and two days after the motor blew cause weeds got sucked in and it over heated. They had a new boat the next day and they didnt even need to go to the dealer. BRP cant even get a glove box fixed.

Dibs on your Utopia if you're selling........... five hundred more than you paid for it.:) Let me know when to start driving to Florida.:hurray::rofl:

Congrats on finally getting the boat up to new boat par.

Aaron,

Are we talking Euros?

I'm going to consider upgrading to 23' in the next couple of weeks. If I sell Should I do an ebay deal or Boattrader you think? Nada has average value of $18,130. Does this sound like a good target price? Should I add more for the warranty good till 2013??

Wow

If you were a bit closer, I would be on my way to pick your boat up........

Even with the exchange I would ask more than that for my 05 18 footer. If you hauled your Utopia up here, you could ask in the neighborhood of 35,000. Maybe it's just me, but I think you are about ten grand low (and I know what you paid).

It makes me cry every time a look at the prices of things up here. We seem to get the short end of the stick in Canada on just about everything. Just as an example the oil that I use in my boat is 56.00 a gallon up here, and in the US at Walmart they sell it for 26.00:ack:.......... last time I checked, the exchange rate was not over a hundred percent.

If you feel like coming up north for a holiday, bring your boat with you and you wont have to worry about towing it home.

Aaron,

Why would the Seadoos cost more there when they are made in Canada. Whats with that?????Calgary....thats like 4000 miles away!! How far are you from the Canadian Rockies? I wanna check that out some day!

Craig

Everything costs more in Canada, and it seems if it is a local resource it cost double to buy it locally then to order it out of the States. Seems all Canadian manufacturers will sell their products to the US for half of what they will sell it to Canadians for.:ack: Also on the boats, even though it is a Canadian company I believe they are assembled in "EDIT Illinois EDIT" (Edit as per Tonys thread). I could be off on that though so don't quote me on it.

As far as the Rockies go Calgary is 45min from their doorstep. Banff national park, and Lake Louise are just over an hour away.

hey guys my boss shipped a 18ft boat from florida to Ontario and is was under a $1000.... Might be something to think about

That is probably going to be an easy sale...

Craig,

Glad to see that you got your boat back finally..but bummer to hear that you are ready to let it go. Before you sell it, you might think about the tow weight of a 23'. You are pulling it with a SUV with a 3500 tow capacity. The 23 Yamaha, with trailer, and stuff is going to exceed it. That is why I didn't look at it. Just a thought...

You will get more than your money back. Probably one of the few people here that is selling it for more than what you paid for it!

Yamaha

Jim,

Your correct in that a 23' will put me over 5000 pounds and way beyond the towing capability of our Hyundai Veracruz. Right now I'm liking the Yamaha SX210. If I ever upgrade tow vehicles(probably not going to happen) I'd look at the SX230 and the Seadoo Challenger 230 although right now I'm favoring the Yamahas.

Only thing about Yamaha that I do not like is the engines are raw water cooled where as the Seadoos are closed loop glycol cooling with the exception of the exhaust manifold. I occassionally boat in salt water and do flush after every use(even in fresh water) so I do feel the Seadoo cooling approach is superior. Just wish the quality of the Seadoo and customer service was better.

Craig you get to Atlanta an I'll take you for a spin. Maybe even get you wakeboarding. Plus the Yam's hp is lower that seadoo, it hard to go down in power. Once you get it you always want more. :)

Tony,

How about the weekend of June 20th?? I'm taking the motorcycle to Maggie Valley. I could ride down Sunday. I;d love to experience the wake tower.
