hey guys,
i recently diagnosed a problem with my 98 gtx to be internal within the mpem, i have been looking for used mpem's (anyone have any ideas other than ebay?) and have found a bunch, my question is.....do i need to then buy a new DESS key from sea doo? if so, does it have to go to a shop to be programmed, or is it something i can do?

any informaton is much appreciated, thank you

programming?

Anytime you replace the mpem, it has to be re-programmed to a new lanyard. When you do this, you should purchase 2, so you have a spare.

The only time you wouldn't need to re-program, is if they gave you the lanyard. But then you'd have to be weary as to whether or not, someone else had a key to your bike..............

What makes you think something wrong w/ mpem.(just ask'n), double check all connects, wires for corrosion or burnt..etc.

MPEM test........

Normally, if the mpem is bad, you'll get 8 short beeps when connecting the cap to the DESS post.

Used Mpem's.......

Used MPEM's.........buyer beware!

There is no true way to be 100% sure, that any electrical component you purchase from a distributer of used parts, is selling you a good mpem. The mpem may be good the day he tested it or sent it, but if it was in a ski that was sunk and the electrical box took on water, that mpem may work for a week or a month, then go bad on you. Since you do not know the history of the way that ski/boat was ridin, you do not know what kind of history the electrical system had. Was it blowing the VTS fuses. Did someone jump it of with a car that was still running..............so many things to look out for.

I had a friend this past season get a good deal on an electronic control module for a Yamaha Wave Runner. After they bought it, I put it in for them. Gave them the same "smoh" on buying used electrical parts. It died on them 4 or 5 weeks into the season. Then they bit the bullet and bought a new one. Yeah, they wasted some money (learning the hard way), but they are still riding it now. I saw it sitting at the dock this morning on my way in to work.........so, think about buying used electrical components.

The worse part about the used electrical components is just like you see at the auto parts houses. No returns on them because they think it could have been your fault that something in your system caused it to blow!.........

Just be careful............
