Was wondering if someone has some insight to the internal schematic of the 1999 GTI MPEM. My problem is blown 5A fuse on MPEM and blown 15A in rear electric box (off the solenoid). This happens without engine running and without key on. I've traced all the wires using the wiring diagram found in the shop manual. I have verified that the ground wire (Black) coming out of the magneto goes into the MPEM at pin 17. Doing a resistance check with the MPEM completely disconnected, I found that pin 17 to pins 24, 25, and 26 have connectivity. And since pin 26 goes directly to the positive terminal of the battery, this is causing a direct short to ground, hence the blown fuses. Before I pay $400 for the MPEM, can somebody verify for me that there SHOULD NOT be connectivity between pin 17 and 24,25,26 on the MPEM.

Thanks
Jeff

Continuity....

I think your referring to continuity.......but, look in the members section and there is a guy, whose pretty good with trouble shootin the mpems......"all things custom".........drop him a PM, I'm sure he'll have an answer for ya.....
I think you may be having a live short in your VTS........
Good luck!.....:hat:

The VTS is the (Variable Trim System) it is opered by a switch that controls the nozzle angle of the jet pump. They short out quiet a bit and vts motors go bad.
