Need help- I have a 1997 Challenger thats been a pain in the butt for about a year now. When running it throttles up great one minute (runs great) and the next won't run past 5000 RPM'S. I had the carbs. and other parts checked all OK. Now my mech. thinks it MPEM. MY questions is does this sound flawsable and if yes- can this part be repaired and where. Also recently my gauges don't work- fuses keep keep blowing when replaced- is this all related ?

Any help would be appreciated.

More than likely the mpem is ok...just "checking the carbs" doesn't tell much...did you have them at least cleaned and adjusted correctly...checking them to me, means that they are in the proper places and no one stole them.
As far as the gauges it could be that the fuses were corroded and were bound to need replacement anyway. Check the grounds and the wiring for loose connections too.

:agree:
I would think more along the lines of voltage regulator.(rectifier) This could also be the reason for blowing fuses!!
The easiest way to check this would be to mount a volt meter on the dash and keep an eye on it. When my stator went bad and wasn,t charging my engines would not rev past 5000rpm.
changing out the mpem is expensive and would be the last thing i would do if possible, there was a guy on this forum that was doing repairs to mpem's, but he has moved and last time i heard someone was having trouble contacting him.
Test and re-test the cheap options first.:)
