Mounting transom-mount transducer. Existing hole or drill?

I have twin 787 engines & the paddle-wheel speedo feeds through the port-side engine-mount. I'm thinking about using the starboard-side to feed the lead from the 'ducer back inside; the hole in the mounting-plate is there & it IS threaded, but the transom wall is still solid.
Thoughts?
I bought the connector 293710031 to thread into that opening. I assume I'll need to drill through without messing up the threads, then use a bunch of sealant afterwards.
