I am getting ready to pull the motor out of my 96 GTX (787). I bought it cheap from a buddy of mine, motor was locked up, it sat for two years, we got the motor loose but it had water in the crank shaft housing and one of the pistons scrub at one point. Also runs at low compression and only if I hold the start button down. I am going to send the motor to the Seadoo Engine Shop in Horsham PA, since I only live about 2 hours from there. ( Does anyone have reviews on this place ? I spoke with the guy and he seems very knowledgeable ) Is there anything I should know about pulling the motor out ? The motor is only about 5 years old and only had about 6 hours on it. The guy did not use it or take care of it very much.
Also I have done research on putting it back in, is the alignment tool necessary ? It sounds like it is, and I have no problem getting the tool. Also I plan on flushing all the lines and replacing all of the filters on the ski, is there anything else I should clean or re-build while I have it all apart ? I already plan on flushing all the lines and tanks for fuel and oil and my buddy said about cleaning or rebuilding the carbs.
Is there any process for checking the oil pump ? Should I just replace it anyways to be on the safe side ? I want to put this ski in the water and not really worry about it. I will replace what it may need. I got the ski cheap and do not mind putting the money into it as long as it doesn't cost more than a new ski.
Me and my buddy are very mechanically inclined and we should have no problem doing this as long as well have all the info we need. I have the shop manuals and have been doing as much research as necessary but its always good to hear from experienced people, you get better info that way sometimes.
