Hello fellow riders, how can you tell the difference between a 717 and a 720 motor.the reason I ask is I bought a 98 seadoo gs with a blown crank and piston.the guy I bought it from, said it was a 800.i said I don’t think so .the engine tag is missing .it was rebuilt and blew up after three hours.from what I see is lack of oil from the pto side oil injector.it also has one carb and the motor is silver.i want to repair the motor or by a complete motor.any help is much appreciated

717 and 720 are the same....787 is called an 800 interchangeably.

you can tell the difference between an 800 and 720 by the location of the temp sensor. 787 has the temp sensor located in the corner of the head and the 720 has it located right between the spark plugs.

Thanks for your reply rusty.i guess my motor is a 720 because it has the temp sensor in the middle of the cylinder head.thanks again.

As said above 720/717 are the same engine just different numbers for the same thing. 720 is the engine family and 717 is the actual measured cubic centimeters.

720 and 787 look nothing alike, 787 is laying at a 45 degree angle and has two big black caps with red screws on them for the exhaust valves. It also has a huge exhaust pipe.
720 is vertical and looks like a normal engine.
