First off thanks to Bmann and Rfoster on their help so far. I do have some more questions regarding the cable by the jet where it goes into the transom. I can see the cable going into the transom and when I pushed the gate up it would hit the pipe on the cable and not open. After thinking of what Bmann and Rfoster told me I decided to disconnect the wire to prep for installing the new shift lever (I broke the last one trying to launch the boat). That when I noticed the pipe is a outer sleeve. So my question is should you be able to see the cable goin into the transom or do you just see the pipe and sleeve (mechanical vocab?)? I can't upload the pics for some reason, the iPad will not search for files. I will try to get them uploaded. If the sleeve connects to the transom please explain how to connect it there. Again, thanks for the help!

You need to replace your shifter cable. That section is supposed to be part of the through-hull section.

I should have updated this post after I fixed it. The dealership who broke that piece said I needed to replace the cable also. Actually the piece just clips back together. You just have to make sure you push the rubber boot in to keep the water out. I have had it out a few times since then and it seems all is well.thanks for the response!
