First, thanks for the forum and taking time to provide some info/advice. I'm looking to putchase a jet ski, me and the misses had one we sold a few years back and we really miss it. It was an older Yamaha WaveRaider and to be honest was too small for two of us. I really like the SeaDoo's and I'm going to start looking for a winter deal on an older model. I'm Primarily looking for a two stroke, I like the simplicity and In my opinion they are easy to maintain. My question is what models are the larger three seaters, I look at the history posts and it is somewhat confusing. I really appreciate any insight on what model(s) I should be hunting for. Thanks in advance!

GTX (after 1996) and GTI (after 1997) are the big three seaters. (Prior to 1997 the GTI uses the older, smaller 3-seater hull, and the post 1997 GTS continues that. If you want big and comfort you should look at the later hulls)

The 787 motor is the 1996-1997 GTX, as well as the later GTI LE RFI and GTX RFI. (RFI is fuel injection though, so not as simple as the carbed models).
The 720 motor is the 1997+ GTI
The 947 motor is the 1998+ GTX Limited, as well as the GTX DI.

If you're looking for simplicity it's best to avoid the DI and probably the RFI (though the RFI is a more reliable system than the DI). Simplest will be the GTI with its 720 motor, however the 787 powered GTX will be a bit faster and more comfortable for not much more maintenance over a 720. The 947 models have the most horsepower, but have increased maintenance and a more complex design.

Based on what you've said it would seem that a 1996-1997 GTX is your best bet.

Thanks much Themk!

Look for a 1996-1997 GTX probably the best all around older 2 stroke 3 seater. Had the wife's 1996 since 2016 good machine.

If it’s just a cruiser and towing or top speed isn’t important you will never beat the reliability and ease of the GTI with the 720.
But next in line definitely the 96-97 GTX.

Wow, was not prepared for what I encountered when looking for a project jet ski. Searched daily on Marketplace and other sites and an project Ski's always started with "parting out" followed with "no title" or "no paperwork". Bet I found 100 ski's I was interested only to be disappointed. Here in Florida, no title or an out of state registration with a bill of sale with the same name as the registration and your out of luck. Actually made an offer on one which was accepted and a Friday pickup to show up and he had sold it out from under me. Call me ancient, but a man's word is important where I come from. Ok, done venting and will keep looking, just got to wonder where all these ski's come from with no paperwork!

I know what you mean and I always wonder, do they really make more parting them out? It seems more common up here in the north, to find this with snowmobiles. Same thing though, couldn't you do a couple simple things, to get them running and get just as much or more for it? All the disassembly time, the shipping and dealing with 20 different people. Doesn't sound like fun to me.
Good luck with the search!
