What do you guys prefer, letting the oil injection system do its thing, or do you guys clamp off that hose, and mix oil with the gas?

Also, on a 1997 XP, what would be the mixing ratio with fully synthetic quicksilver pwc oil (purchased at walmart)?

Correct me if I am wrong,
running it off the oil pump gives you variable oil/gas mixture, as rpms increase oil increases though the pull of throttle so this will prolly save you money. However, if the plastic drive breaks your going to be running straight gas,so no lubrication.

If you premix its safer dont have to worry about the pump failing, but if you fill up on the water or top the tank off you need to figure out how much oil to put in.

my advice do what you want and works best for you. weigh the pros and cons for your self.

I agree with Josh, I run oil injection on mine as do my friends. Just easier and the variable rate is how the motor is designed to run or they would have come factory for pre-mix. Nothing against pre-mix, just easier if I need to fill up on the water. Mainly a personal preference.

Also on your XP, you still HAVE to run the oil tank to lube up the rotary valve, you can only pinch one line to the pump. Either way you'll have the tank in the ski still.

I use premix in my xp just because its pretty much fool proof. It smokes a little at low rpms but that doesnt bother me too much. You dont have to leave the tank in there. Just buy a block off kit. I use amsoil hp injector and mix it 3 ounces per gallon. You also may want to go a size bigger on your jetting.

Yes he does have to run the oil tank still, as the 97 Xp has a 787 motor in it. Not the 951 like your 01 XP.
