Hello, i am new to boat ownership and have just acquired a Challenger 1800 w 240hp mercury m2 jet - last night i notice dark green oil dripping a bit, ran it today and everything was fine, but oil is now bright green and foamy….i am handy, but not mechanically knowledgeable - any ideas what could cause? Here is a photo…. Thanks in advance! 11EDB206-E84A-4E97-9732-DAAFD7695975.jpeg

Did you remove a drain plug? It is hard to believe that the gear case could leak that fast.

Assuming that you did NOT remove a drain plug-
You have a bad seal at the back end of the gear case. Requires engine removal and service from inside and outside the boat. At least the oil is only creamy, not glittery and brown. Creamy is water. Glittery is gears and bearings.

There is one other possibility. You could have fishing line wrapped around the impeller shaft and it has worked its way into the seal. Worth a look up into the tunnel.

I would not put the boat on the water again until it is fixed. Law enforcement takes a dim (expen$ive) view of oil leaks.

You will need the service book.

Thank you for your quick response! I think you are right about the seal...Yikes, engine removal sounds expensive ;( I didn't remove a drain plug....

Removal can be done with a common engine hoist. Not anywhere near as heavy as a small 4 cyl. car engine.
