Mikuni Fuel Body / Check Valve Cleaning Question or SEA DOO 270500105 part.

Hi;

I tried searching on the forums for information but I couldn't.

I have two or three fuel bodies lying around; I usually buy them rebuilt from osdmarine(BUT! they have limited supplies so....). My question is; I know you can buy a new check valve kit. The rings where the disc's sit on some of these fuel bodies have tarnishes; superficial or not I think it may hindered them sometimes(It's incredible annoying when you cant figure out why your pop off isn't holding)... Can you polish these out or is it too risky. Anyone practice any methods?

I'm gonna try to answer this question as I understand it. I believe the checks you are referring to are the "fuel pump" intake and exhaust valves. Those valves do not determine "Pop-Off." You are correct that the discoloration does not mean they are leaking. Those discs come with the Mikuni Carb kit and it is important to use only Genuine Mikuni Parts. With regard to polishing those surfaces, I am a machinist by trade and I have a lathe at home. I made a valve lapping tool to fit into the guide so I could lap the surface and eliminate any roughness or damage (this only works for slight damage or with a surface where I have concern) This is the tool I made but I seldom use it. Just a little valve lapping/grinding compound and slight pressure to smooth the surface.

There is a great carb rebuild kit on the forum. I suggest you check it out and if you still have questions post up. Good Luck !!

From experience a little scotch-brite or and some solvent will clean any debris off the seat surface. There is a bit of an art to installing the discs. :D I have my own way... some people don't have problems installing the little bastards but I sure do. :D There is a lot to check on these carbs so a thorough reading of the procedure is a good idea. The 4 holes in the carb barrel must flow copious amounts of spray (I use brakeleen). Then there is a little check valve on the aluminum block that needs to be in place and in good shape. If you get these carbs clean and the right parts in there they will work great. Good Luck !!

Get the special screw drivers, they are worth every penny.
