I had my Seadoo Sportster LE rebuilt by him this summer and he charged me $2500. I found out that he used JB weld to fix a few holes in the block which allowed me to use the boat for less than an hour. I returned to Ottawa and when I contacted him, he said he took a job out west... Does anyone have any information on this fraud? Please help and be cautious when getting your boat serviced here in Ottawa. Stay clear if this man! He's in his late 40's to early 50's about 5'10 with light brown hair living at 297 Clare Street, Ottawa Ontario. I have contacted the police and our family lawyer. If anyone has any information on this guy by the name of Brent, please post it here. Please be aware!

Maple Leaf Marine feedback

Has anyone used this guy in Ottawa or know the guys name? I know the first name is Brent.

Not recommended. Still not sure he's for real. I had a simple outboard motor back to him three times and $400 and each time it was returned as working. I never saw it working. My fault for not forcing him to show it to me working in the Ottawa shop.

Good luck

Seadoo rebuilt that never worked

Hi

Same thing happenned to me. got my Seadoo 2001 gtx rfi in his shop at Clare St. Paid for an entire engine rebuild, new fuel pump and winterizing. Last spring, the seedoo wouldn't start. contacted him. Dove the PWC to his shp, he quoted me another repair, this time neede to change the computer but told him it was simply the fule pump not working and he was supposed to have changed it. i declined the computer repair and decided to change the fuel pump myself sinci it was in fact not working. Engine never ran since he said he had performed an entire rebuild and that PWC was ready to run next season.

Tried contacting him again, he declined or never showed up to appintments. I have txts as proofs.
This was a scam and I lost my money since I paid for services which were fraudulent and not performed on my seadoo.
Stay away

I am current assembling a case for fraud, misrepresentation and assuming a false identify against Brent. I lost thousands myself with a very similar story to those posted.
Please message me privately as your written testimony is valuable to building this case. It's not to late!

Can lpquesnel and fraud buster Private message me as I would like to obtain a bit of information and I might have some good information for you and your case.

Thank you

I hate to say it guys, but you have a long road ahead of you if your trying to collect from the scammer. First of all its a civil case, not criminal. That means that your only option is to sue the guy in small claims court (which you have to pay for). Assuming you build a good case, serve him the papers, and win the case, you are still in the same boat. He will be ordered to pay you back. If he does not pay you back, you will have to go back to court and attempt to collect either his personal property or bank accounts. If he has no money in the bank, and nothing of value in his name, then what? Chances are, he won't show up to court, you get a default judgement, and then you never collect. Not to discourage you, but...

You will be receiving something far more valuable than a refund from this guy. Life experience.... NEVER trust a stranger. NEVER trust a mechanic that you don't know personally. And never never never pay for something upfront.

Sorry this happened to you.

Ripoff

Has anyone used this guy in Ottawa or know the guys name? I know the first name is Brent.

I used this guy Brent of MapleLeaf Marine as advertised on Kijiji. Seems to have popped up again on Kijiji as Precision Mobile Marine now. I paid for a full motor rebuild in the fall, once returned it still did not run. Tells me its the computer and wants over $1000 USD for a new one, so I source a used one and have it installed by a trusted mechanic in another city. This didn't solve the issue. Brent blames it on the computer even though I saw it used in another machine running perfect and tested. Next summer he tells me I need to do a oil injection block off to solve the issue. He does this and then leaves it outside his shop on Clare street, hull full of oil, unlocked, him nowhere to be seen.

Ended up bringing it to my trusted mechanic near Peterborough who takes it apart and notifies me that nothing has been replaced or rebuilt as I paid for. I still have my crankcase i kept for evidence which needed the seals replaced as my original issue I brought it to him for, that was never done. I ended up selling the seadoo last summer for parts.

Any updates on this guy? A license plate or last name would be useful.

He mentioned to me he had his machine shop with the tools for honing cylinders and such at his main shop near Sharbot Lake. His new ads on Kijiji advertise for Tichborne (south of sharbot lake) and Ottawa, although now he is mobile. I looked into the shop on Clare and it looks as though he is no longer operating out of there.

A scammer only needs one thing: Blind trust. I would not hand a complete stranger my engine and a pile of cash. He could steal the engine, or simply keep the cash and not perform the repairs. Never trust anyone. Never pay in advance. Hear it run before you pay for the repair. If he says he needs the cash upfront to buy parts, or to pay his rent - then he is obviously not successful and should not be trusted with someone else's money. People are not good. Almost all of them are either selfish, dishonest, immoral, or simply do not have the ability to see the world through any other eyes than their own. Perhaps you feel that I am jaded or wrong about people being mostly bad - live long enough and you will likely agree with me.

ORION '95 Speedster Thanks but I didn't come here for a lesson. I posted to get any information someone else may have on this guy.
For the record: I didn't pay cash up front, and I did hear it running out of the water before taking it.

TBH I wish he had just stolen it :) Would have been cheaper.

My comment was not directed at you specifically. Some people already know everything that I was talking about, but most don't. If everyone already knew the information that I vomited onto this page in my previous comments, then there would not be any scammers - because there would be no one willing to become a victim of the scam. The scammers might find it easier and more profitable to just get a job.....
