Well this past weekend I finally got my 2003 Utopia with the 250 Mercury Optimax out on the water. There was still ice on half of the lake but I was itching to try it out. The good news is it floats, no leaks. It started right up and idled just fine :). I slowly trolled out of the launch area and then gently gave er throttle to get up on plane so far so good. After a bit of running around 3500 rpm I slowly sped up until I approached 50 mph. Just then a loud steady beep sounded I quickly looked at the oil light but it was not illuminated, then I shut it down and started to curse :(. I opened the engine looked at the oil resevior on the engine and it was still full. So I started it up again, no beep, and started troll around slowely and built my way back up to speed. 45 min and a whole lot of rippin around and still no beeps.:)

Is it a common occurance that beep might happen when the boat is first taken out after a long winter's rest? Was it just vapor lock or something? Do I need to be worried?

The boat ran great, got up to 52 mph and shot up on plane real fast. Although it was louder then I expected, I thought with the engine cover and that big sundeck it would be quite like a kitten not growl like a lion! There was quite a bit of vibration as well, not at full throttle but more around 3000 rpm is that normal?

There was another guy in a brand new Utopia with the dual 215hp engines, we had a race and he could just keep up to me. Then he started doing 180 degree turns at full throttle which looked like a lot of fun but my son was too chicken to let me try.

All in all I am pretty impressed with my doo but I am concerned about the beeping and I am wondering if all the Mercury powered doos vibrate like that?

Kevan,I'm not sure what made the beep sound, but just keep an eye on it. was the fuel fresh or did it have stabilizer in it from it's winter sleep? I would run it a little and if it still seems alittle "rough running" you might want to change the plugs. The first time out the plugs and fuel if stablized need to be run out of the seadoo. See how it runs the next couple times...Glad to hear you had fun with your son. Post some pictures in the "Users Galleries" if you get the chance.

Thanks for the reply Karl.
There was fuel stabilizer in the tank but it was left only 1/5 full over the winter. I filled it up so its mostly new gas. I would like to put some Quickleen in there but they don't sell that in Canada. Is there an equivalent product that does the same thing?

Kevan, I have found that the less additives you add the better. I would just run the fuel out and add fresh when it is time. The only additives I would use is a stabilizer over the winter to keep the fuel from evaporating and cause the carburetors to gum up.
