Maiden Voyage

Went out for my maiden voyage today and overall things are OK.

The Boat floats, doesn't appear to leak, and runs(with a caveat).

We were able to Sea trial the boat and identify some issues but were still able to enjoy some of the performance. We set out with my Brother, my son and a full tank of fuel. The boat is able to jump on plane effortlessly. Performance is sportscar-like. I was even extremely pleased with slow speed handling. At Idle speed I was able to change directions easily and I was laughing my ass off when I discovered I could "hover" and pretty much rotate on axis in either direction. This is a huge improvement over my 240efi Challenger I owned a few years ago. Reverse is obviously backwards what you would expect but it took me 5 seconds to get familiar with its traits......Basically when in reverse if you steer left the bow will go left and Visa-Versa. I love it! We put on about .8 hours(thanks to the newly installed Hour meter My son and I installed) and retrieval of the boat was a learning experience. I learned I was putting the trailer too far in the water therefore the bow of the boat would be under the bow roller not over. Once I identified the problem It was straight forward winch retrieval. I was happy that the boat self centered itself even without guide posts installed(will install those soon).

New Issues Identified:

1) Boat would not start with shifter in "Neutral" locked position. I had to actuate shifter button and move shifter slightly forward to be able to start boat. Also when the shifter falls back into the locked "Neutral" position the boat is going in reverse pretty strong(but at idle speed). I'm hopeful this is merely a shifter adjustment to rectify.

2) Fuel Gauge doesn't work. We fueled up this morning and visually see a full tank but the gauge reads just under 1/4 :-(

3) When Idling down the canal there is an intermittent deep rattle type noise that sounds like its coming from under the helm or front passenger seat area. I opened the ski-locker while underway and could not tell what was going on...Its very annoying and hoping they can find it.

4)Dash/gauge cluster vibrates when on plane.

5) There is an Access door under the helm that is for access to fuses and connectors....this hinged door will not stay closed...Keeps popping back open.

6) After further inspection when cleaning up the boat today I discovered that there are cracks in the gelcoat at the bow cup holders and at the windshield at every screw-point :-(

7) left rear tail light was 100% full of water when I got home. It appears the unit was installed upside down(I took apart and corrected) so hopefully this wont happen again.

Overall I'm still quite pleased with the boat and know when all issues are sorted this will be a great deal of fun. I'm just beginning to feel like I bought a used boat with a warranty :-(

Hope ya'll enjoy the pictures and I apologize in advance to my northern friends.....It was 75 degrees today :-):cool:

What.....no action shots???

The boat looks great, and I'm sure all the problems are just minor adjustment things (except for the gel coat, not sure about that) from sitting so long. Have fun, and I'll go back to shoveling snow now.:ack:

Nice pic i think most of your problems are easy to fix. Thoughs pics remind me of when i was younger going boating with my dad and grampa. Also can you not post how warm it is down there as ill be a human snow pusher for at least two more months :ack:

Nice pics!

Nice pics......looks like your a happy camper now.

Hovering?.......yeah, it is cool. I had always owned outboards and inboard/outboards so when I got my Challenger, it took a few minutes to figure out how to back it. Now, when I go by the marina, I like to do a pirouette. It's cool being able to do a 360*, sittin still.

Docking,......man, you couldn't ask for an easier boat to dock.

Your gear shifter.....It's really not a gear shift. Shift means to engage a shaft or gear in one direction or the other. We don't have that on the jet boats. The bucket movement is what holds the boat still. With the RPM set at idle, you'll need to adjust the shift lever to make up your neutral switch. This will take some trail and error to find the right setting. Then, if the boat idles up or down when in neutral, it will likely move, since neutral is a fine balance in the bucket between moving forward or backward by diverting pump thrust.

Nice pics... Most of the problems described are little things that need adjustment. Most of the things mentioned can't be heard or detected sitting on the trailer. I inspected my boat before it's first maiden voyage because I rubbed 2 coats of wax on it first. yea, it was almost 80*f today here too. Great day to be out boating. Soon it will be too hot to wear a wind breaker while on the water.

Just rubbing it in...

looks good, glad you guys are enjoying the boat.

on a side note tell your son the eagles suck! go cardinals!

Well, I dropped my boat back off at Barneys today. They are nice people there and I suspect we will be on first name basis for a long time.

They feel they should have my issues resolved by the weekend but the Gelcoat cracks may require more time so I told them just get it approved from Seadoo and we'll deal with them when I leave the boat for the 10 hour service.

Great news

Thank you for keeping us posted.
I'm surprised to hear that they will fix the gel coat cracks - very nice.
It helps us in the north frozen zone to hear about boating during our winter.
