I was able to remove the nut at the mag flywheel... do I need a special tool to pull the flywheel off ??? Do I just pry it off ??? I dont want to damage it.

flywheel tool

Are flywheel removal tools pretty much universal? i would like to go rent/borrow one from auto zone... Do i need to ask for something specific? Thx

I using a harmonic balancer type gear puller to remove the flywheel. It has screws that thread into the flywheel. Big center bolt is threaded in tight with my impact. IT STILL WONT POP OFF!!! DOES IT SOUND LIKE IM DOING THIS CORRECTLY????

Please see my pic...what am I doing wrong?

From pic you can see how I have the puller attached to the flywheel. All the silver bolts from puller are equally tightened... The black bolt through center is very tight...I used an impact...Ive been using a rubber mallet and small sledge with a block of wood to hit it... ive been hitting it hard and soft...mostly pretty hard...also tried tapping on fly...I applied more pressure on center bolt with breaker bar... so much at one point I snapped a couple bolts... Ive been spraying it with penetration oil... I have not heated it, Im trying to avoid that...I gotta be doing something wrong...PLEASE HELP

nope, everything looks good. Using the wood, will help "diminish" the "shock" thru the bolt, so i'd use the hammer, directly to the center bolt.

The "flywheel" removal tool, is a big ole- threaded pipe, that threads onto the threads you see, on center of flywheel, then it has the bolt, running thru the pipe, to put pressure on crank, works awesome, but your set-up will work, just need to keep smacking it.

it's rusted on the shaft.

Take the puller off, and heat the flywheel. (I like a heat gun) this should break the rust up. Then put the puller back on, and get it tight. Then, with a metal hammer, give the center pulling bolt a few good whacks. Don't put wood over it, or use a rubber mallet. You want metal on metal. You don't need force... but you need the sharp metallic vibrations to get it to pop.

If you buy the proper puller... you can just grease the threads, and hit it with a 700 Lb/ft impact gun. It would knock the flywheel off in about 2 seconds. (Force, and metallic vibrations from the gun)

Thanks seedooya and dr honda

yeah , it was really on there... I ended up using some heat and had to really torque/beat on it... finally it popped...

I am having the same problem! Here is a list of what I have tried and the results
1. using a puller and wd40 tapping end of puller with ball ping hammer and crappy impact. Didn't budge
2. using same puller and used lots of heat and beating end with hammer and a 810lb torque snap on imapct. Bent fingers of puller.
3. New puller/bolts and used spacers to keep puller from bending, hammer and heat. Broken bolts they shot out like a rocket!
4. Tried all the same and tried CRC Freeze off. No change breaking bolts off in flywheel!
Any other ideas? Am I going to screw anything up by using heat on it?
