So I have gotten a 1997 Sea Doo Challenger and having issues. Took boat out twice when we first got it without issue, third time started to have issues.
1. Low Idle
2. White smoke while in water, not during flushing
3. No difference in speed when half throttle and full throttle
4. Water leak near RAVE valve near exhaust tube

I have done the following to see if I can fix the issue, with no luck:
1. Cleaned RAVE Valves
2. Cleaned and Rebuilt carbs
3. Changed new fuel filter
4. Removed old gas, added full tank of new including Startron
5. New spark plugs and trimmed 1/4" back on wires into plug boot
6. Clean fuel selector

After doing a bit or research, thinking I may have water in my exhaust due to the new issue with water leaking out the RAVE valve near the exhaust.

PLEASE, any and all help is greatly appreciated!

OK....

1) Raise the idle a little.

2) Probably steam. You may not be injecting water into the head pipe on the garden hose. (it's low pressure and volume)

3) Check the throttle cables, and rave valves.

4) This could be the issue. The water regulator dries out the pipe, and really allows for the higher RPM's. (More water builds torque) So... if it's leaking, there is an issue... and water may still be getting into the head pipe, regardless of pressure.

So... I would remove the regulator, and check I out. Chances are, the valve inside has rotted, and needs replaced/rebuilt.

One more thing... since it's a 2 stroke... it's always good to check the compression. A failing cyl will show up in different ways.

Thanx for the input. I will check the regulator and hope for the best.

Does anyone think or is it possible that the cooling line be clogged and where to check that?

So after checking a few other things and doing the recommended by Dr Honda, which I appreciate the help.

I have a bad cylinder. Now the question lies, rebuilt, replace engine, or what?? I never rebuilt an engine, so I wouldn't even know where to start. With the boat a 1997, I would like to get as long out of her as I can...

Did you have low compression in one cyl?

Well... personally... I would call SBT and get a 2 year warranty rebuild from them. It's not cheap... but it's not much more than you can do it for. AND... if you buy parts, and do the rebuild yourself... there's no real warranty on it.

120 in one, 0 in the other. Rebuilt time I believe.
