Low end bogging??

Status
Not open for further replies.
I have a 2002 Sea Doo GTX 155 hp 4 Tec Rotax. It bogs and jerks at the low end but once the speedo hits 30 mph it is great, 61 mph top speed. I know there has been bad gas put in it, but was told (by a long time Seadoo owner)after a few good tanks of gas it would clear itself up, it has had 10 good tanks of fuel put though it and is acting the same. Anything to check, I am noob with seadoos, but can use a wrench. Also is it possible for me to drain the oil myself or do I need the dealer to do it?

The recommended time on the oil change from seadoo is the first 10 hour break in and than every 100 hours. Here is the procedure to changing your oil too. You can order all the items needed from the "parts" link at the top also, except the Oil Extractor...go to West Marine.

Changing the oil on a 4-tec engine…all models

Here is the info on the oil change. If you still need info let me know. I own a 200 speedster 310 hp.
Here are the part numbers you need to change the oil and filter in ALL 4-tec engines.
(3) "O" rings
1)420320920-$7.25
2)420850500-$8.99
3)420950860-$2.20

Oil filter /I use a K&N off their website.
1)KN556-$12.95

Oil 10w40 Mineral Oil from seadoo#219700346-$6.50 a qt.
Be sure you use 10w40, marine 4 stroke Oil, with a API of SL, SJ or SN.
You need 3 L or 2.7 us quarts with filter for oil change.

Oil extractor from West Marine. Company Tempo, Part# 170200 Model# OB5 Retails about $50.00.
Change the oil when it is warm. Rev the engine to 4,000 rpm for 10 sec. and shut off at this rpm. This moves all the oil from the pto housing to the oil tank for maximum draining. Remove the oil filler cap and the dipstick. Insert the extractor tube in the dipstick 18.7 inches from the top of the dipstick pipe. Wrap tape around the tube to be sure it is in that deep. Next, extract the oil from the dipstick. (on pwc models only, the next step applies)When no more oil is extracted, pull the tube out of the dipstick hole and crank the engine(do not start) while the engine is in drown mode(fully depress the throttle lever, or on Jet Boats grab the throttle cable linkage at the throttle body and HOLD it open than crank the engine, get a friend to help)
Crank the engine for 10 seconds, Extract oil again, repeat crank extract 2-3 more times.
Keep track of how much oil you extract and add what you removed.

You will need a E-10 star socket or a 8mm(6pt) socket to remove the oil filter cap. There are 3 "O" rings in the filter cap area if they are damaged change them. Check level, and go have fun.
I hope this info helps.

do what karl said i would also change the fuel filter and check your spark pluges and replace them with new ones if they look bad, not sure what one but im sure karl will know? It sounds like it needs a tune-up....

It has only had 34 hours since the last oil change?? I will check the fuel filter and the spark plugs

OOPS, I should have left information on changing your spark plugs...:ack:

4-tec plugs NGK brand, DCPR8E Gap/ 0.7-0.8 MM or .028-.031in.
Chances are it just fouled a plug. To replace the plugs remove the Oil dipstick, remove the plastic cover over the engine, replace the dip stick. Unplug the wire from the spark plug coil ( it's part of the spark plug cap) wiggle and pull the cap/coil out of the spark hole. Be careful not to break it. Loosen the spark plug, insert the cap/coil in to grab the plug and remove it. Gap the new plug, remove the screw top on the top of the plug, insert it in the cap/coil push it in the plug hole. Use a socket to tighten it. Snug it up go about 1/4 turn, loosen and snug it up(this compress the seal ring on the bottom of the new spark plug). Put some grease on the coil cap where it meets the cylinder and insert on the plug. Connect the coil wire. Do one spark plug at a time. Replace the plastic cover.

This should solve your problem.

Keep us posted.
