Lost in my thoughts.... Stator issues

As the title says I am somewhat lost. I have a 95 sportster with a 657 in it. I am trying to fix the boat up and have had to resort to allowing a dealers shop fix some of the repairs even though I could fix the problems if I had the time. I got it running and went for a quick test run and the engine seemed as if was hitting the rev limiter and cavitating. It would idle fine but I could not get it to come close to getting up on plane. I have had a new wear ring installed and impeller looks good. When they went to water test it it was doing the same. The mechanic has now told me that the Stator is bad and is popping the fuse in the MPEM. My question is, can a Stator cause these issues?

You can test all the parts to make sure the stator is poping the fuse. Sometimes the fuse poping is a bad MPEM also. That boat should have a bearing assembly and not a carbon seal so unless all of the seals are ripped you should not be sucking air if they were you would be taking on water also. Your ride plate might need to be resealed since that can cause cavitation also. I would measure the clearance on the impeller to the wear ring to make sure your impeller is ok. Did you install that neoprean seal on the pump to housing to cut down on cavitation?

A bad stator would not cause you not to get on the plane if the engine is healthy enough. You did compression test the engine? A 95 more than likely has a ton of hours on it.

According to mechanic the stator is bad and is not charging. He also checked the rectifier and that was good. As far as the clearance on the impeller, he also stated that was fine when the wear ring was replaced. I asked him about the neoprean seat and that was replaced when the wear ring was installed. The compression tested showed 150 on both cylinders which from what I have read was good. He told me that every time he replaced the fuse it would blow when he pressed the start button. Would this lead to a stator problem or a MPEM problem?

I have been reading about the ride plate and have not done anything to that. Can you use a standard silicon to reseal it or do you need to use something special?

Tagging on because I have a similar problem. My 5A fuse blows every time I plug the connector to the stator, without pressing anything. With that said, it would seem to me that if yours is blowing when the start button is pressed, it should be something else, like a solenoid or starter or something with the mpem. I really don't know for sure so hopefully someone with some experience will respond, but that's my thoughts.

Some thing you guys can check.. I found water today on mine in the connector from stator where wires connect on that little bracket on the engine which blew a fuse. Cleaned it out with the air compressor and it stopped blowing fuse. Still did not cure my problem though :/ .

Well you can get a stator a FleaBay and try it. You are able to test them with a meter so I would do that first. If the staor passes the tests you can look at the MPEM. As for the RTV for the ride plate I use Tuff Stuff it is one of the best out there.
