Hi all, Last year in the fall when i pulled the ski out and winterized it i put it in the garage. I then pulled the carbs off of it, cleaned the internal filters, external filter and changed out all the grey fuel lines. Last year i was turning 6,800 rpm's going 59 - 60 MPH. this year after the carb and fuel line change i am turning 7,000 rpm and going 50 - 51 mph. The new engine has only 32 hours on it and the carbs where rebuilt by a Seadoo dealer at that time. I checked all fuel lines and there are no kinks. it does have a little sputter to it at various throttle positions, like dead stop to full throttle, cruising 25 mph to full throttle. At 3/4 to full throttle it seems to run smooth. tia.

1998 gtx limited 158 hours on ski 32 hours on engine

If you are getting up to 7000 RPM's... then that's not a fuel problem. It's Cavitation.

You carbon seal can be leaking... or the clearance in the pump is too high. (gap should be less than 0.040")

can you tell me where the carbon seal is located on the ski? I was looking at a parts pic of the propulsion system and it did not list that part.

it does not look like it would be easy to replace(carbon seal). If it is leaking is it something that a person with some mechanical skill could do without specialized tools? thanks

it's not bad at at all.

The pump will come out with only a few bolts, and the driveshaft will slide out. the only part that can be hard is freeing the stainless ring. BUT... a block of wood, and a tire iron is the best way to deal with that. Put the block on the PTO, and use the spoon to push the stainless ring forward. At that pont, you can remove the clip, or cut the O-ring.

It should only take an hour to change the seal.
