Hi all I have a Sea-Doo challenger 2000 and it has a hose laying in the engine compartment on the floor with a 2 1/2 inch screen on the end of it does anyone know what this is for

Most likely it is the siphon hose. Basically it attaches to the jet pump and when the boat is moving forward with some modest speed, it creates a vacuum type of suction that draws in any extra water that is sitting in the bottom of the hull (lowest point) and released into the jet pump. However it is important that the middle of the hose is mounted above the engine... this is where a very small air vent hole is located.

To follow up, the screen at the end of this hose can get clogged up with crud, so you should be checking it out and cleaning it up at least once a year.

That manual is an essential resource! I have a printed copy!

If you look on page 1C-8 it shows the “siphon break” which is the small air vent that I mentioned, I has to be mounted higher then the engine.

Look on page 1D-22 for a description the Siphon bilge system.

Page 5C-8 (item k) shows where the hose is mounted on the jet pump to create suction while boat is moving forward.
