I found some great threads with some good info but was wondering if anyone did a full remove/replace on it with the assorted Gotchas that I should be looking out for.
Before winterizing, I found that at least one of my water jackets is leaking. On closer inspection, it may be an expansion crack although I don't remember it being there this summer.
Anyway, JB Weld or having it welded may be an option but if I could find a good deal on a pair of used jugs, what are the concerns?
It'll be winterized over the next week & I have the winter to pull/repair/replace these but I'd like to do it myself. It's looking like letting the experts (shop) winterize it hasn't worked out the best for me, although there may be another unknown reason for the crack I guess.
Thanks!

I would pull them inspect them and then weld them if possible.

Now for the gotchas........I will NEVER do another top end in a boat. All I had to do was replace a leaky base gasket, a super straight forward repair. It was the biggest pain in the you know what, and I like working on these boats. For me with all the right tools on tap, it would have been hours faster to remove the engine. This was in a 99 Challenger.

AS far as winterizing, it's about a 1/2 hours work and roughly $22 worth of antifreeze and fogging oil (which the remainder will last you a while), unless you want to change your jet pump oil at the same time which most of us do. Still with that you'd still be under $50 in supplies total.

I would pull them inspect them and then weld them if possible.

I poked around on SBT just to see a price; I saw the complete top-end kit but not the jugs alone. Anyone have the part number for them?
I'm headed out of town so it'll be someone else doing the winterizing one more time. Thank you, BTW!

The problem you're going to face is everyone will want a good core. Cracked jugs are not a good core. So, I'm not sure which way you want to go?

Here is what you're looking for, but again you need a core. You just can't buy cylinders and slap them on with your rings. You would need new rings and that is relying on your current pistons being absolutely mint. No business is going to just sell you used cylinders like SBT or the like. A decent pair of cylinders is going to run you $200 used probably.

Now, this is just for a price comparison......

$475 for a top end or $845 for a complete engine. So,. it's and additional $370 plus gaskets for the install and other incidentals But.....you still need good core cylinders. Possibly you could snag some ratty roached cylinders from a member here for dirt cheap, like $50 for the pair. It's unfortunate that you cylinders are cracked

Being that far up in NY you need to really bite the bullet now and do something. I would just remove the engine, take the cylinders off and store the bottom end in a bag until you get good cylinders.

You could probably just follow my speedster winterization thread, they're just about 100% the same set up.
