Looking at purchasing a 2001 Challenger 2000 240hp EFI, Anything I should look for and how do I find out how manu hours are on this boat?? how many hours are to many for not having a rebuild..thanks for any input you can give me on it... I looked at the boat and the stator pump and prop looked used, didn't get a chance to see the grate tines so not sure on that, it is a very clean boat, no Bimini top or cover, what is a good price to pay for it?? thanks, Jedd

Welcome.

BUT... the Mercury boats have their own section. The guys in this section only know Rotax. I'll move this post for you.

Yes... you can read out the hours from the computer on that engine... but you need a Mercury DDS or a Rinda Scan tool. So, that means a trip to a Authorized Mercury outboard/marine shop. (or spend the $$ for the tool)

Unfortunately... if it's the original engine... it's due for a rebuild regardless of the time. I've seen these engines go for a thousand hours... and I've seen some give up at 400 hours. But the big factor is normally age. These engine are happy for 10 to 12 years. AND... a 2001 boat is over due. I'm not saying this is a "Death order"... but be aware that it will need some love in the near future. SO... weigh that with the asking price.

Where are you located in ND Jedd? I am in the Fargo-Moorhead area and always willing to lend a hand.

If you are as well, Moorhead marine is not afraid of the Merc Power SeaDoo's. They could take a look at it if needed.

Good luck,

Thanks biffodtorg, I live in Minot and was looking at one that was on Bisman.. it is really good shape but the impellers and the stator pump would need to be changed and I'm sure the wear rings would also... I didn't get the chance to look at the tines but I'm sure they would need replacing also... thanks for the heads up on the fargo person that would work on it as up here nobody wants anything to do with them

thanks, Jedd
