hey all recently bought a seadoo gtx 2002 1500cc.

Went for a short run out in the surf and after about 15mins the ski stopped dead in the water making a long beeping sound. couldnt get it started and no display up.

Got it out of the water finally and got it home and still nothing.

Soon as i push on the safety key, instead of the normal short 2 beeps it makes a long beep and no display is coming up.

any help would be great as im a freshie and starting to freak out...

(have checked battery, fuel and fuses)

cheers peeps

A long beep usually indicates an over heat condition. Was there water coming out the tell tail Hose? It could either be a cooling issue or maybe a sensor problem. If the engine gets hot it is a cooling issue, if the engine stays cool try disconnecting the sensor wire and see if helps. That could means it is a faulty sensor. Be sure it isn't running hot or extremely warm to the touch. It could seize up if it is running hot.

When you say long beep? ... I'm going to assume the beep stops. The overheat alarm from the MPEM is continous, never stops. If you have the single long beep verses the 2 short beeps, this signals that your lanyard is no longer being recognized by your DESS post and/or MPEM, EMS or ECU.

Because you said you were out having a good time, then it's quit on you, I would go over all your connection points starting with your ECU (electronic control unit) which you will find on the top of your airbox.

If it looks good, look inside the cap of the DESS lanyard. Make sure it's not got salt crystals building up inside. Try to wash it and the post with fresh soapy water, no electrical solvents (this will damage the lanyard cap).

But, from what it sounds like, because all worked well then just stopped,....sounds like you have an electrical connection loose and the first place to start is the ECU.

Oh, ....don't try to jump. With the DESS (digital electronic security system), you will not get that engine to start unless the ECU gets a command from the MPEM that your lanyard is the correct one, which means,....."2" beeps.
