My 1995 sportster began beeping (not a beep..beep..beep, but one solid long continuous beep) in the middle of the night, while sitting in my driveway! It eventually stopped by itself before I could get to it. An hour or so later, it started again. The key wasn't in at the time, and when I removed the lanyard the noise continued. I disconnected the battery and went back to bed!

Connected the battery the next day after work, and the beep started again around 10pm.

I suspect this is probably an engine temp sensor issue. Any suggestions on how to diagnose????

wish i knew :( factory alarm

Probably the temp sensor between the two spark plugs.

When it beeps continuously again, disconnect only the sensor wire from the top of the engine and see if it goes off. It probably will.

You could try removing the sensor and cleaning it up, shaking it out and banging it around a little. Reinstall and see what happens next. If the problem continues, replace the sensor.

Keep in mind that the sensor surface is exposed to the same water that you ride on, so maybe it has some corrosion or something that makes it think it is too hot when it really isn't.

If it keeps going after that, then we'll have to look at the rest of the wiring from the sensor.

Tried removing the wire from the sensor while the beep was going, but it continued. I tried tapping the little "beeper" itself (under/inside the dash), and it stopped.

Is it possible that the beeper is faulty and engaging for no good reason??
