I am winterizing my ski. How important is it to use loctite 518 on the o-ring when changing pump oil? I could not find any at the auto parts store. Will I have to do over again if I don't use it ? Also how much pump oil goes back in. I have a 6 oz bottle and used about half but I cant see inside the cone to see the bottom of the threads. Can I use any kind of casket sealer or does it have to be loctite.

Loctite......

No, you don't have to use the Loctite brand. You can use any silicone type gasket sealant. I don't know about not using anything though. The idea is to make sure you don't get any water in there.

How did the oil that came out look? Was it yellowish in color? If so, your shaft seal may be bad and need replaced.

The amount of oil you used sounds about right. Just dip a toothpick into the hole to see where your level is.

No the color was a dark blackish when it came out. When I put the new oil in I stuck a small screwdriver in until it touched the shaft. I covered the tip of the screwdriver about 1/8of an inch. Should I do the job over again?
