Recently purchased a 2001 Challenger 1800.
There are no beeps upon starting and running.
Found one small beeper / buzzer on harness behind steering wheel area.
Is there another beeper / buzzer somewhere else ?

Thank You !

If the 1800 is like 2000. There are 2 buzzers. Both are in the compartment in front of the steering wheel. One is mounted right in the middle in a hole drilled through the fibreglass. The loud end pokes through to the where you knees are when you are sitting. The other is much smaller and is part is the wiring harness on the left side of the compartment.

Thank you for your reply ! There is one small beeper inside the panel, but don't see the second Seadoo beeper.
No holes drilled in panel below steering wheel. There is however, 2 wires with blade connectors near the wiring
harness, nothing hooked to them. Perhaps they feed the second beeper?

just to confirm, your boat has a mercury engine? I just assumed maybe its changed from my year (2000). anyway. one buzzer is for the mercury side (on the wire). the other is the seadoo side (in the hole). I have attached a picture of mine. the one on the cables on the left has been replaced so yours will not look the same. I had the same issue that you had, putting the key in didn't make any sound and I was worried something serious would go wrong and I would only find out after it was too late. anyway, maybe this isn't the same anymore?

ps. I took a look at the shop manual for the 2002 challengers (1800 and 2000 etc) and it does show both buzzers in the pictures. so I suggest that yours should probably have 2 as well unless they removed it only for the 2001 models. I couldn't find a 2001 manual to know for sure

Thank you for the info and photo ! Will post a photo of what I have.
I assume the Floyd Bell Beeper is the Mercury beeper, guessing the
open wires might power the seadoo beeper.

Mine has that empty spade terminal too. I started a thread a while ago asking what it was for but I don't think it really was decided. The little buzzer in your picture is the one that should beep when you put the key in.

The spot where the seadoo buzzer comes out is on the end of the black box in the upper right corner of your picture. Only on the far end that is outside your picture. Take a look at mine and you will see where it is connected.

I don't remember what actually causes the seadoo one to beep. Low gas? I think all of the important ones are the mercury side.

Took some photos of the fuse box, does not have the same cable configuration as yours.
Looked around the area behind the steering wheel again, still don't see any additional
beeper or wires that lead to a beeper. Will replace the Floyd Bell beeper with a Radio
Shack beeper this week and test it out.

Does your Challenger idle rough ? Is that the nature of the engine ?
Mine smooths out at 3000 RPM, and runs great up to 6000 RPM,
indicates 55 MPH at 6000 RPM. Compression's are good.

Thank you for your help !

That's really interesting. I could not find a manual for your year. Maybe the didn't have the second buzzer for that year. I don't know why the would have taken it out and put it back the next. Maybe the manual is wrong

Sorry I didn't answer you questions. Yes mine idles a little rough. I have heard the unique sound of the engine comes from the firing pattern of the engine. I like the way it sounds but is a little loud for my kids. So I am planning on putting mats down to see if that helps. Mine doesn't go as fast as yours but still has good compression.
